Forget it, I figured it out. When you have 1 text box it scales text, if you have multiple linked text boxes it does not scale text.

Sorry. I was just not in text mode, so when I scaled the box I was scaling the text.

That was it! Text mode lets me scale the box and not the text.

I agree. Spell check, paragraph text with multi columns, unflattened TIFFs. I can't place EPS files or open Corel .cdr files either. What it can do it does very well, but it sure is missing a ton...
