Re: Nice to see Xara get a mention..

I foolishly thought that (however flawed) some positive mention of Xara was a good thing, instead people seem intent on using it as an opportunity to lambast the post I linked to and indeed Xara in...

Re: Nice to see Xara get a mention..

I'd like to think that Xara getting any positive mention outside of TG for any reason is a good thing.

Some people have used Xara for book production so while it is far from being the best for...

Re: Nice to see Xara get a mention..

All that required was "Why doesn't Xara tell this guy he's recommending out of date software?" or "Why doesn't Xara get mentioned elsewhere?".

I'd rather there was a mention of Xara than no...

Couldn't you guys just be glad that Xara had a mention without picking the whole thing to bits?

Re: Nice to see Xara get a mention..

I never imagined a mention of a Xara product would cause an argument!
  6. Re: Can I trick Google into looking more favourably upon me?

    Ian,

I'd like to suggest an alternative approach to some of your projects.

The problem with web design is that it is inherently transient because of shifting technology. I used to make my...
  7. Re: Can I trick Google into looking more favourably upon me?

Ian I respect your decision and I understand it would be a huge amount of work to do otherwise.

It may be convenient to blame technology, but really this is about meeting the needs of your...

    Re: Propaganda posters

I have to say I avoided watching "Dr. Strangelove" for ages and then finally ended up watching it. What a great film and fantastic performances by the cast.

In recent times Putin hasn't held back...
  9. Re: Can I trick Google into looking more favourably upon me?

    Excellent points.
  10. Re: Can I trick Google into looking more favourably upon me?

I'm waiting for someone to suggest I just zoom the page, but that should not be required to read text easily.

Unfortunately the big disadvantage that Xara has is that it does not use a templating...
  11. Re: Can I trick Google into looking more favourably upon me?

Users like consistency. I've had to hunt on a page because I couldn't see any menu because it was at the bottom. All pages should be consistent with navigation.

..not on my phone - barely...
  12. Re: Can I trick Google into looking more favourably upon me?

I went to your site on my laptop and the pages I visited loaded quickly.

I looked at your site with my iPhone and it's really a hard job using it - you have no mobile variant. Everything is tiny....

    Re: Propaganda posters

#15 is attributed to the USSR and seems an unlikely message coming from there. A powerful poster.

    Re: Propaganda posters

    #18 and #26 great choices.

#18 really made me stop and think about the talent of someone to come up with such a literally graphic way to illustrate the message.

    #26, the old "battle-axe". I...

    Propaganda posters

Sad to see how many of these are just as relevant today. Some powerful imagery.

  21. Re: Please can we have an Android (or iOS) version of Xara

I hadn't heard of this at all until you posted here.

    Then I read this: https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-marches-toward-launching-its-cloud-pc-service-possibly-this-summer/

    So probably.

  22. Re: How many layers can be put on? How many animations? Can Xara be fooled? What if y

I think you have a web design talent, but have the wrong idea.

There is a purpose behind a website and that should be more important than anything else.

Animation can be engaging and it can be...

    Re: another face

The head is thrust forward with the neck at an angle. Below the neck the angle of the clothing (with a hint of bird wing) all support the notion of a forward movement or at least a confident...

Re: The right page sizes for proper transistions

Gary's site solved the issue that Tim first mentioned. Good job.

As you say, top level domain as a test site -no, no, no.

I then went on to mention things I had found an issue. Some of the...

    Err.. no

I'm not sure where we are going with this, either.

Tim I think you have a few pointers going forward and I wish you all the best with it.
