I think the lower/uppercase problems lie at the server level not with the client/browser. Linux and UNIX are case sensitive, so pic1.jpg is not the same as Pic1.jpg. If the case of the name...

I've seen this happen with IE 6 and Mozilla Firebird. It's usually just a matter of refreshing the browser window to make it go away. I'm not sure why it happens in the first place.
