    the alt key is not a workaroud - it is a new way of doing it

    I would have preferred it to stay the old way too, but it has changed

    I sometimes use an old version to get round stuff like that

    try holding down the alt key as you drag - does that work ?

    xara did this because they consider the majority of their users use photgraphs which they do not want distorted and would rather have...

    it isn't a tool - as daniel said in so many words, it's just a graphic representation of available tools and you cannot access them this way in the program

    well if it were me and I was happy there would be no copyright issues I would either vectorise/cut-out the symbols, if the resoulution was high enough, or redraw them - if they are generic symbols...
