To relocate the start/end point, I think you have to use the shape editor to break the outline -- isn't that right? And since you're in that mode anyway, you can just hit 'enter' -- then go back to...
It's not necessary to drag the repositioned end point to reclose the shape, just press 'enter' on your keyboard. :)
Don't know if this has been mentioned before -- it's an elaboration of the method described by handrawn in #7 above.
It's good for drawing cartoons or organic shapes using partial contours --...
Instead of pasting attributes, would it work to make the original ellipse a clipview (with no outline or fill if needed) then rotate the skewed pattern as a larger shape 'inside' the ellipse?
Ned
I thought freehand recontouring was uber-cool when I first came across it, but because of its lurking unpredictability I rarely use it now. (Although I still find it fun.) 'Subtract' otoh is totally...
One thing I haven't seen mentioned, and that I'd find especially useful, would be a more streamlined way to use node-reduction smoothing... When drawing with the freehand tool, I find the best line...
Restraining myself to suggestions I haven't seen before...
0. Documentation.
I respectfully propose that Xara document functional changes and new implementations more comprehensively in the...
You'll end up with the big piece of pie if you flip the circle vertically (but not horizontally). Or even better, if you change the direction of the line ('reverse paths' button on the shape editor...
Unfortunately, if you're using solid dragging, which I think is the default for Xtreme Pro, you can't visually reposition the invisible object (without trial and error) so you end up needing to use...
It would make sense for Xara to retain the true dimensions of line widths further down the display quality continuum, and to have a discrete button for it.
When I was using X1.1, I itemized (for...
I liked it better when 100% transparency was directly selectable with the selector tool. I don't understand what was supposedly gained by changing this -- but a little ease of use was lost; and imo...
I suppose most people use vector software for structured design work -- in which pimped ergonomics is not life and death. Illy in particular strikes me as assembly via remote waldos...
But when I...
The new option to 'make groups be transparent as a whole' also fades lines, and offers some interesting new possibilities.
I'd like to see a button be added to the transparency infobar where it...
In XX3.2 (and perhaps earlier) the registry value 'TransparencyBecomesCurrent' is set to '0' by default -- meaning transparency always has to be applied after an object is created -- unlike like the...
Xhris and a4hire both suspect the behavior I described is intended to help out new users. I'm also suspicious -- but if Team Xara was really 'iipnufail' (interested in protecting new users from an...
In xxp3.2, with the option 'Give new object most recent attributes' ticked, I can't draw a line segment with no width. It's automatically set a to .67px black line. I can draw a closed shaped with no...
I haven't used Swift 3D (http://www.swift3d.com/) but it's described as being able to model and animate vectors in 3D. Has anyone here tried using it in conjunction with Xara?
Ned
This really caught my eye. I like the composition, and especially the way the photo was stylized. I would guess it was done with a posterization filter, but I'm curious about your mention of 'vector...
Thanks steve, that does help.
I didn't realize ctrl-c alone would reset the attributes; I've been using ctrl-c, ctrl-shift-A all these years...

I've been using x1.1 for a while, and have decided to get up to speed with xp3.21.
One of my frustrations with older versions was that I was often unable to close freehand lines into...
I like the way your mind works steve. Sorry to step on your responses...

Using the freehand tool, I draw, for example, some blue shapes with a 4 pixel red line. I deselect all objects then change the line width to, say, 8 pixels. The line width changes correctly, and the...
Thanks Phil, that makes a world of difference.
It should probably be noted that the option "Give new objects most recent attributes" also needs to be checked.
And it still doesn't work like...
Thanks for the suggestion Albacore. I overwrote xp3.20 with xp3.21, but the behavior is unfortunately the same.
I've used several versions before x1.1 and I believe they all worked the way I...
