general sizes for websites?
hello everyone.
is there a general/basic widths i should be using to create a desktop website?
the 3 template xara pro 11 has seems a little skinny on my monitor when i preview.
im sure there is a reason, but can someone explain the widths please or where do i find them or what would i be searching on the forum?
desktop widths?
thank you
Frank
ps i have a 24" Apple monitor
Re: general sizes for websites?
There is no "standard."
I do variants at 960 and 480 and it works well.
I used to do a tablet variant at 640, but stopped since I think the other 2 work well.
I'm sure we'll get others posting other opinions also.
Re: general sizes for websites?
so the 960 is for the desktop? and the 480 is for smartphones?
what do these 2 numbers mean? pixel width?
what happens if i in crease the with to say 24inches... people with only a 12in monitor half the site will be cut off? or will there be scroll bars at the bottom?
thank you
Re: general sizes for websites?
what size is www.flexfit.com
that site fills up my entire screen.
i have a 24in apple monitor
do you think a person with a 12in monitor can see the entire site or is it cut off?
Re: general sizes for websites?
how many variants can a website have?
Re: general sizes for websites?
Those are px widths.
960 for desktop and 480 for mobile.
Typically, 2 or 3 variants are enough.
I don't use a middle one for tablets any more since 2 work well for me.
Re: general sizes for websites?
thanks for the reply...
but whats the width for www.Ebay.com that's another site that fills my screen or is that a variant? how do i figure that out?
Re: general sizes for websites?
yes the 960 is a xara template. it seems a little skinny.
i guess my question is can the desktop be too wide?...20 inches?
Re: general sizes for websites?
Can it be too wide?
Yes it can.
And inches don't mean anything when using monitors. You need to look at pixel width, since there are different resolutions.
You don't want people having to scroll side to side to see the entire width of the site if it's too wide.
Also, if you specifically want to create a "wide" site that fills the screen, you can do that using stretchy images and sections, but this program doesn't create true responsive websites that fill the width of the screens.
This program creates variants that sense what the width of the browser is and loads the appropriate site for it.
Re: general sizes for websites?
