I only used the colors that were in the background photo (unretouched) and I used an RGB pallette (personal favorite) as well as my own personal preferences with an image in silhouette. Plus, it's free for you to use or not.

Personally I like it. Looks like how one would see the night sky and the trees would be is silhouette and dark as shown, I think if anything were lighter then the effect would be lost. To me at least I get a feeling of being there. Good job EvaBrown.
I stopped using Corel products a long, long time ago so I can't comment on the ease of using it, but I think that making a calendar using Xara (XDP6 in my case) is the simplest thing ever. I took one of the default templates which was easy to modify and the result is a pleasing 2011 calendar created in minutes :

Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I agree with an earlier comment about the use of a dark background image which, to my eyes, makes for a more negative impression than if a lighter image was used. Just my opinion, of course.
Nice calendar beret, only, how did my wife get into it? ;)
Oops sorry for ogling James, I didn't know that was your wife.
I'm sorry James, neither she nor her sister told me they were married :-O
Here's another one I knocked up this evening during the commercial break...

Oops... perhaps I should have said that another way, LOL :)
Here's the xar file for both calendars if anybody wants to play ;)
To be honest, Xara has made it incredibly simple to create a calendar using one of its templates for ages but I've never been tempted to try. Call it lack of time and/or interest. Thank you chuck for encouraging me to look at this, yet another feature of my Xara program that I will be using a lot more in future!
Thanks Olivia.
