The "stars and stripes" have never looked better!
Alan Burns' microscope is one of my all time favorites. The looks of disbelife on peoples faces - when you zoom in on the glass plates is priceless...

I've always envied Risto's technique and the chance to go thru it step by step was excellent. I don't have Risto's feel for colours, but just to show his effort in creating the tutorial is appreciated heres my effort

I still have a bit of jet lag so my evenings have been spent in my chair where I have fallen asleep, so here are my comments:
The tutorial: timely and appropriate, as always I learn new things and reacquaint myself with all the stuff I have forgotten
The guest tutorial: fascinating, I haven't had time to spend with it yet but will do so shortly
Guest Artist: Alan Burns humbles ones pretensions
Brushes, tips, etc: always welcome and a source for ideas
I look forward to all the stuff posted all month long in the Xara Xone. All new and inexperienced users will find everything they need to learn and get up to speed using Xara, and all users should find much inspiration for their own creative purposes.
Regards, Joel

Hi Gar--
One of the 3D members reproduced your flag. Awesome. Seems like a lot of the 3D users use XARA for profiles, materials, clean-up work and so on.
You know what occured to me on your tutorial? Why is it that we have version X of XARA now, and no freeform envelope where we can add nodes, a la that "other" program I refuse to mention? Seriously, wouldn't it have been simpler if we could add envelope nodes to freeform distortions?
On my Wish List to Kate....
BTW, here's my Sept. 11th statement. I used Typestry II.

Free education! The Writings Web site
and the updated GaryWorld Gallery is pretty okay, too.

Gary,
I appricate both the tutoral and the feelings about Sept 11. Work cannot express....
I have a question or mambe a suggestion for a tutoral. The use of the mold tool to creat acurate perspectives. As in the artist of the month's fantastic illustrations of watches and the microscope. I can see how it can be done by eye (was that a pun?) but I cannot figure out how to use vanising points to lay out acurately.
Thanks for all of your tutorals. They have shown me many usfull techniques.

Would you be kind enough to explain the steps you went through to create the graphic of Alan Burns watch drawing above.
These are some of the effects I want to use in my work and as I am new to Xara, it would help me greatly. I am particularly interested in combining pictures and this one has an interesting fade-away on the right and the triangle part is darker.
Thanks in advance. :O) J
