Re: Export Layers as files?
You can export layers as PNG files and PSD but not as SVG. As PNG and PSD each layer will export with the layer name. I tried this as SVG but all layers exported as a single layer.
Re: Export Layers as files?
I think I am right in saying that xdpx does not support exporting layers in SVG if that is the case you can at least hide all layers [using click for first layer and then shift+click on last layer to hide entire range] and show each layer one by one and export; you'll still have to name every export - not quick, but the best you can do for vector I think
Re: Export Layers as files?
Following on from Handrawn's suggestion I'd also recommend having a layer 'border' containing a rectangle (stroked, no fill) and export that layer with each seperate layer. It helps with maintaining size/location. For example, export an shape from Xara to svg. Import that svg to Xara. Sizing is far smaller. I'm not a great lover of Xara's svg export, it causes to much hassle :(
Re: Export Layers as files?
Thank you all,
I already did it exactly as handdrawn mentioned. It's a pain, but doable.
The only problem is, that the drawings could change. For instance a different line-width for a certain element or so.
And then I'd have to do all the tiresome exporting too.
Another thing about SVG that bothers me is, that you can't export just the object. The resulting SVG will always have document size, even if there is just a tiny thing somewhere on it.
I found workarounds for postprocessing that using Inkscape, but this is no good method either.
As a webdesigner, I love SVG. Making them is not so much fun though :_(
Re: Export Layers as files?
Using keyboard shortcuts can often help with these type of repetitive operations.
For example if it were possible to write a macro to help automate the exporting of a layer the steps might look something like this:
To copy the name of the layer to use as the file name
- Select the layer name
- Right-Click (to show popup menu)
- Click the down arrow x4 until 'Rename layer' is selected
- Press Enter (to start editing layer name - layer name is highlighted)
- Press Ctrl-C (to copy layer name to clipboard)
- Press ESC (to deselect the layer)
- Shift-Ctrl-E (to open export dialogue)
- Ctrl-V (to paste layer name into file name input field)
- Enter key (to start export - assuming the SVG file type is already selected)
- Enter key (to accept the default SVG export options)
Select the next layer to export
- Tab key (to move to next layer)
You still would have to manually make layers visible/hidden though.
