Does anywone have a palette of Browns? I am looking for Browns withOUT a red/orange cast to them or that are not too saturated with black/grey.
Most everthing that I have created that look great on the Xara Screen (even with Show Printer Colors turned on) print on our color laser printer as orange or gold.
Thanks, John
P.S. Any other "earth-tone" palettes would be appreciated.
Gary P, do you think there could be a place in the Shareware section of the Xaraxone for custom palettes or templates that have custom named colors?

I agree John. Finding a pleasing "natural or nature like" brown is very difficult not only on a screen, but in print or paint shades.
I assume there is a "technical" reason for this but it can be frustrating. I was at a paint store the other day looking for what I call a light brown, came home with 7 or 8 sample strips and most have too much red in them...still trying to sort that one out.

I don't have a laser printer, but experienced the same problem on my inkjet ... and orange is *not* one of my favourite colours!
I'm guessing that this problem may have more to do with the limitations of printers and inks, rather than the actual palettes?
John, I used to make palettes in Paint Shop Pro, and I see that the PSP palette format (as well as others like Illustrator/CDraw etc.) is compatible with Xara and can be imported into the Color Gallery or straight onto the color line (great!). I didn't actually know this until I saw your post and tried it - so: thanks
I've got some brown-earthy-tones sample palettes, if you're interested (strictly RGB, though). The tricky thing being that you don't want them too much into the grey tones either (picky, aren't you ) - so maybe you need to look into the greenish browns?

I think this is a nice idea.

I posted a set of pastel colors at the bottom ofXaraXone Templates Page
I try to post all shareware that people send me.
John-- Brown is not a color. It is generally a muted version of orange with a range from red orange to yellow orange.
I would recommend starting with Orange in the HSV Color Model mixer in the Corel Editor and experimenting.

For those of you who are also "Corelians".
I tried to copy Corel .cpl files into Xara X's palettes subdirectory, but Xara did not like them.
Have any of you ever had success with using CorelDRAW .cpl files with Xara? I am using version CDraw10.
*************
Corel does have some nice palettes. Since DRAW10 has a script that will automatically create a color swatch "drawing" from a selected palette, I will try saving these swatches as CMX files and import these into Xara X. If they come out okay then I guess I can give names to the colors and save this as a Xara template.

IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE A PALETTE FROM WITHIN XARA?
*******
MADBAT: Sure I'd be willing to try your palettes.
You can email them directly to me if you want. Jclements@BrwnCald.com .
GART P: Thanks for the advice. I will get your Pastels file.

As a color specialist in the hair industry, I know a perfect drab or neutral brown shade is an even mixture of red, yellow and blue (or red, gold and ash), and I know this can be achieved on a painters palette too. So.....can't you achieve this in Xara somehow? Gary?? Anyone???
Or how about taking a brown shade that comes close in the printouts and start subtracting the amount of yellow (and red too??) to reduce the 'gold' in the printouts.

If you say PaintShop Pro palettes can be used within Xara, this method could be useful and fast.
1.- Open a photography file with the colours you like (usually it will be a jpeg) in PSP.
2.- Still in PSP, reduce colour depth to 256 colours.
3.- In the Colours options, now you can save the palette and give it a name.
4.- Finally, you can open the palette in Xara or any other application that likes the PAL format.

Try this. Save image your computer. Import into XaraX and use color picker (eyedrop) tool to extract colors to Xara objects. Name the colors. Delete objects and save as template.

YES
Brian Etherington's XPal which is available for free in the XaraXone Shareware Page.
Chuck - It looks as if you have created two browns and then created a blend of intermediate steps. Am I correct?
That is a terrific way to create a range of colors.

Try creating this color in XaraX.
for RGB:
R: 58
G: 58
B: 58
for CMYK:
C: 132
M: 132
Y: 132
K: 65
I knew there wasn't much differance in hair color and artist color palette's. Then take XPal and point the EyeDropper tool and create a palette with that background color.
Something I wish you could do with XPal is to have the option to create a color palette of the same color. I think that would be a great idea to add to that wonderful tool. Example: 10 colors each of cool, nuetral, and warm browns from dark to light.

PS: Got the Matrox card installed, nope, XaraX crashes all over the place when using the brushes or trying ot create a brush, still
