DP7 Shape Editor Tool - Need Help

This is most likely a simple fix but some of the options no longer appear when I select the shape editor tool when attempting to extract part of a photo. Furthermore, I can't just click and create an outline to the image I am wanting to cut out of a photo. When I click the lines no longer form around the photo unless I click and drag my mouse which only creates a single straight line. Sorry if this sounds weird but the behavior is strange to me also. Hope someone can help or let me know if I am missing a step.

No need to feel stupid. We all have these moments. Plus, it would be helpful if you would explain what the solution was. Someone else will be having the same problem, and your post will help set them straight. :)

Judging by his attachment it looks like he had the straight line tool selected and not the shape editor tool.
