View from a Bunker, Vietnam 1966
It's been awhile, here is a drawing that I completed awhile ago. View from a Bunker was drawn in dedication to my late brother in law, he served in the US Army, Vietnam 1966-67, 105 Howitzer Fire Base. I used an old faded picture he took from his bunker as a model.

This image really speaks to me, the peacefulness of the grassy meadow and the misty mountains in the background contrasting with the gun in the foreground really make a statement.

I would not want to be on the receiving end of that thing, Merv.
That was about the same time I was in the Army but fortunately, not in Vietnam.
Very excellent rendering.

I like that Merv. I love the way you handled the grass. If I may be so bold to ask, what is that beige area at the touching the left side of the ammo belt.
Re: View from a Bunker, Vietnam 1966
Larry that is the box that contains the self disentegrating belt of ammunition. As the weapon fires the belt disentegrates and the spent brass is ejected to the right.
Great drawing Merv.

Thanks Frances for the comments, greatly appreciated.
Yes Gary you were very fortunate, We thought we were doing great being in the Navy till you wind up on the River.
The light colored box at the end of the ammo belt is a waxed M-60 ammo box. It was carried in a cotton bag containing an "assault packet", The waxed cardboard box, which could contain 100 rounds of M60 ammunition. The bag has a cotton sling for carrying over the shoulder. I arrived in Vietnam Dec. 1967, just after my brother in law left, we just missed each other.

Well no wonder I didn't know what it was. I was a radio operator. Tactical Air Control Party, Forward Air Control Team. Fortunately I didn't go to Vietnam either, but it sure was close. But that's a whole nother story.
