Stop & Post November 2009
First of November 2009. Not only has this year gone by very fast but we are rapidly coming to the end of the first decade of the 21st century. :O:)
Are you working on something new using one of Xara's programs? Please stop and take the time to show us your works in progress or completed images. :)

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
That's a great looking dragonfly, Rupert. Love the eyes.
Two super clean illustrations, BP.
This is the project I'm working on at the moment. It's another "what if". The Armstrong Whitworth design was never built. It lost out to the other British V bombers in the 50's. I was interested to see what the flying wing design might have looked like if built. It's still a WIP and will be for a while. It'll be used in an illustration when completed.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Appreciate both your comments. Super work BP and Gray. With those drawings you are in a world on your own!

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
I'm not really doing any image right now but I was playing around with the bitmap tracer. I have not used it until now and wanted to see what it could do. This is a trace of a photograph I took at the EAA airshow 2009.
I added the bitmap trace wire frame too....and now I've added the original photo.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Interesting effect, Nancy. Almost gives it a painterly look.
I was accused at one site of using a bit map tracer for a piece of work I posted, even after I posted the wire frame line drawing and explained how it was drawn by hand. That was from a guy who was a teacher of Illustrator at college.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Nice work on that beautiful dragonfly Rupert! You really excelled yourself. :)
Very nice illustrations BP, I liked the colours in the vintage car and the laptop is very realistic.
I see you are still making magnificent planes Gray! What a lot of work in it...they are so good. Keep on doing what you do so well.
Great to see something done differently Burpee, I like the painterly look you've given your plane. :D
best wishes
Michele

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Graham, the teacher was probably not used to seeing that amount of detail done by hand. You have to to get a realistic look. I'm not at that level yet. I was interested to see what the wireframe would look like and this posting of it is the first time I looked at it.
Thank you Michelle, I thought the painterly look has nice appeal too.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
I am not happy with the drawing and will probably start from scratch and do this image over. But sometimes you have to get to this point to realize that it is not working as well as it might.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
That one pops right out Gary. I like the guitar theme.
-
Re: Stop & Post November 2009
That looks good to me, Gary.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Gray, respekt for your WIP of the airplane. Unfortunately, I lack patience with such a thing. So, I do mostly only graphic arts with those I after few hours finishes. If your perseverance can only admire.;)

It's like life CMONE. You start at point A and end at point B. All the good stuff is what you learn along the way not in the end result.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Sometimes you have no inspiration, and those days I go
the 99designs site and see what is asked for. Not that I enter
(I don`t want the hazzle with printers, formats of pictures etc.)
but you can still just doodle around with the idea a bit.
And this logo came out for the genesis career college.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
I like the first one's text placement better. This is a great design as it conveys the idea of movement and, for some reason, technology.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Very clean looking logo ankhor. I also like the first one best.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
This is a project I've been working on for a while. The main plane is a 1918 Hansa Brandenburg. This is the progress so far on the work. There will be landscape showing through the clouds on the lower right, there will be another aircraft above and at distance. The backseater will be casting a wave at the other different type aircraft as it banks away. The aircraft are drawn in vector. Although I usually digitally paint the skyscape or landscape I always lay it out and colour block it in Xara vecter first. There is still a long way to go on this one yet.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
I've said it before and I'll say it again, your cloudscapes amaze me.
How about a detailed series of YouTube tutorials Gray >:);)
(just kidding...well not really, but you know...)
-
Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Agree with Steve, your clouds are fantastic. We know your planes are but the cloud work makes it all seem even more real.
-
Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Thanks Burpee and Gray. I really thought about this one. And the G had to express that you netter yourself through time, you start in the middle you progress up. And ofcourse like a handle progressing in time clockwise.
The C and C I wanted to incorperate in the G. one negative other positive.
Now I have to work on making them more colorfull and more 3 d ;)
And Gray, your clouds are really amazing, your planes too by the way. ;)
And I have seen plenty of cloudskapes here in paintings when I was younger
by old dutch painters, and yours can hold up to them.

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Thanks all. I'm trying to work on improving my skies and landscapes.
ankhor, black and white tells you how good a logo is and this one is good.
-
Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Graham that's fantastic. I was thinking you were using a photograph for the clouds until I looked at your sidebar.
-
Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Gray, your illustration is simply astonishig, really. Lupen
-
Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Thanks Gary, lupen for your kind words. I draw in vector and paint all the sky and landscapes I use in the plane illustrations now. :)

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Hello folks,
This is a poster I created for my father using Xara Xtreme. I had it mounted for him in a custom made black metal frame and it looks really sweet. I'm new to the forum but have been experimenting with Xara for a little while. I never cease to be amazed by this program and I am still discovering all that it is capable of. I like it so much I have all but abandoned my other graphics programs.
Anyway, just wanted to say "hi" and express my excitement of becoming a part of your Xara community. I have already learned many new things in the few posts I have read here.
PS. Dad introduced me to Xara and is an avid Xtreme user also.
Mark (aka buckobeck)

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
A hearty TG welcome to you, buckobeck. You've jumped right in and made a big splash with your first post. Bang-up job! I'd say that needs to be posted in the Xara Art Gallery proper and not just the 'Stop & Post' category.
You also need to persuade your dad to drop by TG and join in. The more the merrier.
Just out of curiosity, what size did you make the dragonfly poster?
I look forward to seeing more of your works,
Harry

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Hello HayTay,
Would have answered sooner but I had to take the puppy out for a bathroom break. I created it in Xara at 40 x 22.04 inches which made it easy to capture all the small details of the dragonfly, I settled on 20 x 11.02 inches for the print.
I must admit that I was worried that a print wouldn't look as good as it did on the computer (this was my first with Xara), but I couldn't have been more wrong.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Mark

Re: Stop & Post November 2009
Your welcome for the welcome, Mark. Thanks for the poster info. I, just recently, printed my first poster from XXP at 22" W x 17" H. I must say, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Once I get it finished I've got to post a picture of the framed print for gray ('twas his suggestion), and everyone else, to check out. You'll eventually be able to see it in my URBAN D-K thread.
Xtreme Poster Print Fun,
Harry
