I'm using XDP7's 3D tool and would like to to the following: Create a 3D "W" with the number 3 "hanging" over the bottom right loop of the W. I'm not sure if I should post this here (since I'm using XDP7) or in the 3D maker forum, but I'd appreciate a little help. I can create the look in 3D for each character separately, but getting the 3 to "hang" over the edge of the W is posing a little difficult for me. Any suggestions? TIA,

Coleen I would create Bitmap Copies of the extruded text objects and use a clone and either Clip View or a transparency to make it appear that one is hanging over the other.
In the attached .xar file I converted the text to editable shapes because I do not know if you have the "Bailey" font.

Thank you both so much for the replies. Bill that is EXACTLY what I wanted to do - thank you! I tried doing it by creating two separate 3D images and then hanging it like Frank did, but I couldn't get the effect that you did - I can't thank you enough, once again you are my hero!

Thanks Bob. I like the font, but I really wanted the 3 to hang over the W (like in Bill's) so the arm of the W should be under the top of 3. I'll turn the 3 a little more, but really, what Bill posted is exactly the effect I was/am looking for. It's not as simple as I thought it would be, so I really do appreciate the help! I'll post my results when I'm done. Right now I'm looking for a nice font that is "rounded" but not handwriting and not too bold. Haven't quite found what I"m looking for yet... Thanks!
Coleen, maybe Bill will post a tutorial for you on how he did it. But if I did it I would put the 3 to the back then make a clone and cut out part of the top (clone) or using the transparency mask to remove part of the top 3. This will leave you with two images that appear to be one and give the illusion of the 3 looped over or hanging on the W.
Coleen I just had another look at Bill's file and that's exactly how he did it with one exception he did it with the W not the 3.

Thanks for the responses and help, it is very appreciated. I am not sure why, but try as I might, I can not get the same effect with the attached object over-hang. I've tried converting everything to bitmaps, doing a clone, applying the clip-view, but I'm just not able to get the effect I'm looking for. The only way I've been able to do it is to "break" the circle and put one part in the back-ground and one in the foreground (as you can see) If anyone can show me how to do this seamlessly, I'd sure appreciate it!
Coleen you can put the circle shape behind the numbers and put a clone over the number. Then apply a linear transparency to make the portion of the circle over the number invisible.
You should do this in Xara Designer and not Xara3D.
Thanks Bill, I appreciate it. I am using XDP7, not 3D maker, but the biggest problem I am having is that when I convert the extrusion to a bitmap and try to apply a linear fill, I get a box, not the image! How do I covert it to a photo bitmap copy? I noticed that yours is "Photo Bitmap" not just a bitmap. What am I missing? Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
Okay, I think I figured out how to get it to copy as a bitmap where I can apply a linear fill by changing it to an editable shape first, but now the bitmap copy looses its 3D effect...I mean it looses the nice "edge" (see attached image) ugh! What am I doing wrong?

Coleen make a linear transparency rather than a linear fill.
