Re: Blend and merge photos
To get the result you want you need two photos one on top of the other the bottom photo is the one you blur, the top one is the one you apply the transparency to. You can also adjust your elliptical transparency with the transparency handles and also by using the profiles dialogue box (click the arrow icon on the info bar) In the screenshot below I'm using Designer Pro but Photo&graphic Designer should work the same way.

Re: Blend and merge photos
ok I have the pro version - different manual but I think I see the chapter you refer to on page 245
you need to make the copy on top of the original
so
select your photograph - clone it, which puts a copy directly on top - blur that copy, apply the eliptical transparency to it, and the original unblurred should now show through
EDIT - ladies first :D:D
Re: Blend and merge photos
Beat you to it ;)) I do it backwards to the way that it is showed in the help file/manual with my blurred photo on the bottom and I use the elliptical transparency on the top photo that way I don't have to reverse the transparency
Edit: Another way to do this would be to blur the top copy and use the eraser tool with a large nib and a high softness value and erase out where you want the sharper bottom photo to show through.
Re: Blend and merge photos
Many thanks, folks.
I thought I'd also tried the reverse way to that in the manual, but maybe not as you gave given it.
This leads to another simple question - (don't cringe, please) - if the original is on the left and the copy on the right, which is top and which is bottom?
See, life isn't simple.
Re: Blend and merge photos
the original is on the bottom and the copy is on top of it - literally
they are not side by side when you come to do it
Re: Blend and merge photos
Hi Denton,
You can make either be top or bottom. Select one and use Ctrl+F to bring it to the front (top) or Ctrl+B to send it to the back (bottom) of the stacking order of the layer they are on.
