Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Not sure if this is the place to ask the question - but is anyone else who bought the excellent Xara X very recently having problems getting the website to offer the upgrade free?
I've emailed support, but no reply yet. Should I be downloading the trial anyway, or am I to wait for CDs or what? I'm a bit confused.

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Here's my usual drone about software quality, company responsiveness, and customer inclusion. See, now this is a company.
I don't mean to be repetetive, but I've been party to some well known sw products in contact and business management space, and their support forums were manned by a couple of straggler vendors who made add-ons to improve the product ( make it what it should have been before it was released in essentially beta form ). In the forum posts, the vendors threw out some "solutions" to usage and bug problems, and when that didn't help, they suggested you buy an add-in. It was formally known that company personnel don't monitor or respond in the forums. How dumb can you get. They viewed the forums as a liability and a cost, rather than an opportunity at public relations, and support. Answer a question once in a forum, and 200 people may be helped by the answer to one. Since the forum was not monitored, no suggestions or bugs were followed-up on, leading to mass customer exodus, "noone is listening to us".
It's extremely refreshing to see a smart, nimble, intelligent, communicative company engaged, and motivated by market response. Just as police use citizens' eyes and ears as an extension of their limited force, you use the users' daily struggles and findings. And then you incorporate those into central product development activity. Common sense to some, but incredulously foreign to many... May you remain part of the few who "get it".
Thanks for the update.

Hmm postage? although 30 bucks is a bit steep.
My upgrade cam from $49 to 65 or something like that
luckily the euro is strong so in euro`s it cams out under just 50
still enough to buy a brandnew game, but still.

Hi Fergus,
Sorry about this - it seems that we don't have the discounts setup quite correctly for the particular Studio product that you own. I've asked for this to be corrected and then you'll be emailed to let you know when you should try again.
Thanks

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Not sure if this has been asked before.
If I install the update now, what happens when I get my cd?
If I install from the cd then I will be going back to the original version.
Surley I need to install the cd to get all the fonts and clipart installed, or is there another way of doing this.

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Hi JJ,
If you purchase the upgrade or receive it as your initial purchase you will receive a CD with the most recent version. Currently the download is a trial version (can be unlocked). The developers get feed back from the Beta testers and they also read the feedback here at Talkgraphics.
You may have noticed there was a download version dated June 11 and then a new download dated June 20 which contained updates in response to the Beta testers and feedback from the forums.
The development team will decide when to have a cutoff date for further improments before the program is sent to the company that creates the CDs for distribution.
When the CD arrives it will have the most recent program that was available for download for the version you purchased.
If you purchased within the time frame for the free upgrade, you will receive the CD for the newest version when it become available.
Not being a Xara Group Ltd employee, that is the way it has been done in all previous releases and what I infer from the information available on the Xara website.

When by chance would the vista 64BIT version come out??
I got a new pc really juiced up and hungry to hop into Xara and extract its full capabilities, prior I only had a pent3 55mhtz and xara still worked very well on that system,
but unfortunately Xara shows a lot of glitches inside vista 64BIT, this is the new demo I downloaded.

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Maybe it's just your graphics drivers. Vista is renowned for less than optimal drivers because it's so new. If you can try an alternative driver, it might help.

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
I sometimes get graphical artefacts with Vista32 when Aero is on. See if things get fixed if you switch Aero off.
-
Re: 3.2.1 updates released
hi guys thanks for the suggestions, I actually only have vista home premium so I don`t get the aero interface, I have 4 gig ram so its not a ram issue and I dont know much about computers just a bit about software so I`m not sure how to change drivers? Pauland if you could elaborate that would be great help thanks :)
sincerely, Mark.

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Hi Mark,
It's not too hard to change drivers, but I'm not running Vista and I'm wary about trying to help you if you're not sure of what to do. Either someone else will step in with some instructions, or perhaps you could get a mate around to help you?
That said, it's usually a matter of going to the support section of the website for the manufacturer of your graphics card and checking out the latest drivers and following the instructions there.

Thanks Paul,
I`ll check out the graphics card website.
its a nvidea Gforce 8800 gts.
no real observable problems seem to occur until I use the edge feather
slider, then the artifacts and problems occur...I`ll check the drivers
and see what my seller has to say about insallation..
thankyou..

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Hi Mark,
If you have a My Computer icon on your desktop (not standard in Vista) you can right click on the icon and select Properties then select the Hardware Tab then click on the Device Manager button.
If you do not have the My Computer icon on the desktop click the start button, if you have My Computer on the start menu (right hand side of menu). Right click My Computer and select Properties, then Hardware, then Device Manager.
If no My Computer on the start menu then select Control Panel. When Control Panel opens up select Classic View (upper left of the window).
In Control Panel double click the System Icon. Select the Hardware Tab then click the Device Manager button.
I don't have a Vista machine here at work so I'm guessing at the wording although it should be similar to Windows XP which I do have here.
Once you have the Device Manager open, expand the node for Display Adapter. Right click on the adapter name and select Properties. In the properties dialog select the Driver Tab. Click on the Roll Back Driver button and follow the prompts.

Re: 3.2.1 updates released

now its just reading "standard VGA graphics adaptor"...

Re: 3.2.1 updates released
Glad I could help. I had the same problem when I was running one of the Vista beta release last year. Having that Roll Back Driver button has been a great asset.
