How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
Hello everyone,
I bought last month Xara Web Designer 7 Premium and it is very nice to work with it.
But i have a question
I have an JPEG of a logo of my company in a white background done in photoshop. I would like to bring this image into Xara Web Designer to incoroporate with my drawing.
Is it possible to make the white background of the jpeg image to be transparent so that the drawing done in Xara Web Designer shows through the white background area only?
Any suggestions given would be very much appreciated!
Thank you!

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
Jpegs do not have transparency. If someone created the logo for you in photoshop then the quickest route is to get them to send you the logo as a png file with transparency.

Thanks for your post.
I made the logo by myself. I also tried a png file but it doesn't work...

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
Jack how are you trying to make the png.
If you are using the jpg with a white background you will need to mask out the white background before you can create a png with a transparent background. Simply opening the jpg and then saving as a png will not do what you are asking.

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
As the others have said you need to set the background to transparent somehow within your software. If you made the file in Photoshop there should be a way to export/save the image as a .GIF or .PNG which both can be transparent. Be careful however if there is a lot of white in the image if it is on a white background. It could make the white in your image transparent as well. Look in Photoshop Help and it should tell you how to do it. I use a different program( Paint Shop Pro X )so I can't tell you how in Photoshop but the Help section will walk you through it.

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
jack, how complex is the logo? its quite a simple matter make an image transparent using many of the free paint programmes, i use paint.net personally to make most of my icons etc transparent it does a good job as long as the image isnt too "busy" so to speak - you can post the image up here and i'll run it through the paint.net prog and see how it turns out.

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
hehehehe same here - saw it and i thought this shouldnt take long so why not - should let the user do it himself really the only way to learn but i thought it would take me longer to explain how to do it than do it :-)

exactly what i was thinking but i remembered what a revelation it was when i did learn how to do it, can import export and do the thing in under a minute these days, i also believe their are some small stand alone progs that can do it for you out their but can't remember the name....
edit, did you by chance remove the text, do the image and then re do the text? as the font looks slightly different?

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
Well, between asking for help at Xara-Users and TalkGraphics I'd say the OP has done jolly well from all accounts. Hopefully he will see how crazy simple it is to create the logo in Xara Web Designer (the software HE has) in the first place.

@Trukkerz ... why didn't you just reply where you found the image? Up to you of course - to some extent - but no acknowledgement even?

Re: How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?
I think that is because it has a .jpg extension on it Mike. Open it with your program and export it as a png and that should solve the problem, I think anyway.

It was saved as a PNG and it opens with transparency on my computer..... only goes to jpeg when I upload it to the forum.
