pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I've updated Windows to 8.1 yesterday and when I update my website with Xara Pro X9 through FTP uploader some of the pictures are corrupt. There is part of the picture, approx. 30% at the end missing.
It's a bit like playing the lottery. Once it worked, but next time a few pictures are partly broken.
Fast publish on/off makes no difference. I also deleted the old pictures first on FTP manually before uploading and same error.
I checked on another computer with 8.1 and it's the same problem.
This is very bad.
The only way out was to manually replace the broken pictures with an FTP program (SmartFTP).
Anyone else having this problem?
Already submitted a ticket...
best,
steve
running Xara 9.2.3

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
HI Steve, sorry to hear you are having problems. Are you running 8.1 32 or 64 bit ? Additionally do you have IE 11 installed or IE 10?
It would be good to get a log file generated which may give us some additional information as to what's causing the problem and information on generating a log file can be viewed from http://support.xara.com/index.php?_m...articleid=2836
A useful test would be to publish your website to a subfolder rather than overwriting your current site as this provides a cleaner test. Did the problem occur? If not then make a small alteration to your file and republish and check whether the changes upload successfully.
Thanks

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I deleted all from the ftp directory before uploading and the end of picture was missing.
when I used SmartFTP all content was there.
There is no error on Xara. So I think the log won't show anything, but I can check.
64bit W8.1. And IE11, but I also checked with Safari & Firefox and pictures were broken too. When you download the pics you could see the part of it was black/missing.
I will see if I can re-create the problem and send you screenshot/log etc.
Loads of problems with IE11 all day. WHY DID I UPGRADE to 8.1? Total nightmare... Not even Google Calendar is working in IE11. SoundCloud is broken. The list is endless...
cheers,

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
It stopped doing it now. I don't know why. It was driving me mad all morning. Pictures were fine in htm folder Xara stores locally, but when uploading it on FTP they would arrive broken there.
Another thing, Xara seems to forget where I stored the html files on my computer and defaults back to 'Documents' after a while. That did not happen before W8.1. It would always remember last folder used for HTML export.

Now it did it again!
check for yourself...

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Hi Steve, we've replied to your ticket as well and are attempting to reproduce the problem. I suspect many services will require some tweak to ensure they work correctly with Internet Explorer 11. We are aware that our chart and accordion widgets display/behave incorrectly in IE11 and will be updating the widgets accordingly.

tried to reply but your email is not working!
Is anything working today?? :)
that's the error:

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Not seeing that here.
Did you try a screen refresh? (F5 or Ctrl F5)
-
Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
that's not possible. I went to another computer with safari and the bottom picture on www.steve-rhodes.com is cut off. The text should say "Making Me Rich" and it's not there. IE shows a pattern where pic should be.
check again!
The pic get corrupted when the upload takes place from Xara.
If I upload via SmartFTP all is good.
Currently trying to restore my office machine back to W8. This is a nightmare! (typing this on laptop)

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I’ve just restored W8 (instead of W8.1) and the uploads from Xara work perfect again.
sorry, I don’t have time for this. But at least you know that there is an issue with 8.1 and corrupt uploads with X9 Pro.

Thanks Steve, we have reproduced a problem and are investigating. Many thanks for bringing it to our attention

I still can check on my laptop which has 8.1 in case you have it fixed at one point...

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I'm having the same problem.
It didn't occur to me that Win8.1 could be the cause of this problem. I assumed that I had corrupted something, and found this board in the hopes of figuring out how to repair it. I wasted a couple of days on this.
It's strange that all the browser previews look fine, but when you upload it to a server, photos are affected. Parts of photos are missing, or entire photos are missing, on pretty well every page.
Just letting you know that I'm anxiously looking forward to this fix, and if I can assist, let me know.
Thanks!

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
8.1 - IE11 - is having trouble with Google stuff and blaming Google tho Outlook is affected and last time I heard that was MS!
Quote:
.....Microsoft has now made changes of its own to fix the problem [with Google], which can be turned on by unticking an option in IE11 that makes the browser use "Microsoft Compatibility lists
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24608277
Don't know whether that "fix" will help as it's nothing to do with Xara but worth a try and it shows it's not Xara's fault
-
Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
this has nothing to do with IE11. The uploads from Xara are corrupt.
Pictures don't arrive whole at the FTP.

I also have the same problem since I updated to 8.1 (64). I use web designer 7 premium and while all the browser previews look fine, when I upload it to a server, photos are affected. Parts of photos or entire photos are missing, even entire pages are corrupted. I downloaded the demo of web designer 9 premium and created a new place for exporting my website, just to see what it happens, and every preview looked perfect since the moment I published it, when I saw the same problems.
Please help ! One of the main advantages of this software was its possibility to upload automatically only the changed files. It is a nigthmare to do it manually with ftp. If there is no solution, xarawebdesigner becomes useless !!

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Please can you tell me how to restore my computer back to Win8? Please help?
I have serious problems with xara upload, no slides show's work, no picture holders work! Your right its a nightmare. I have been told Xara are working on this Win8.1 problem but it's going on too long. I've been weeks now with no resolve.
I use google chrome could that be the problem?
I have used FileZilla, still the same problem.
I have used a different computer running Win7, still same problem.
SO OVER THIS ENTIRE SITUATION!!
We need resolveNOW!?
Please help if you, don't ask me any questions it is what it is.
Check these websites: www.slatedining.com.au and www.slateroofingqueensland.com.au
Most pages have slideshows and picture galleries, it's the nature of these sites to show pictures.
Thank you

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Yes, this is taking too long, Xara. Serious problem! Any update?

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Hi. This problem is not specific to Xara. We have completed tests from a win 8.1 machine using a variety of external FTP tools ( Filezilla, Winscp etc) and encountered the same problem. We are therefore continuing to investigate whilst keeping an eye on similar reports found on Google.
We would be interested to know whether you encounter a problem when attempting to upload your files via an external FTP tool.
Thanks

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
No problem here with other FTP tools. I'm using Smart FTP client. In fact this was the only way to fix the broken pics from Xara upload by replacing them via SmartFTP.
-
Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
You can add me to the list. I made some edits to one of my client's sites yesterday. Everything looked fine locally. I published it to the server and the site exhibited the same problems as the OP had (missing and/or sliced graphics, dropped text blocks, slideshow not working, etc.). I'm not certain but XWD9P might have changed some of the graphics from PNGs to JPGs during the save/export/publish phases. I've never seen that before.
I finally wound up having to transpose the JPGs back to PNGs, replace the questionable JPGs with the new PNGs, then save/export/republish the site locally. I then FTPed the entire site (all directories & sub-directories) manually to the server using Filezilla. Fortunately this method was enough to get the site back up & running again.
For reference, I'm using a freshly installed XWD9P on a brand new machine, running Win 8.1 64 bit with all current updates from Microsoft.
Could this be either...
1.) A graphics formatting problem at save time.
2.) An FTP problem that corrupts CSS layout.
I'm as anxious as everyone else to get a fix for this problem. Perhaps the issue can be stickied for quick reference?

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
the problem happens at the ftp upload from Xara. Because it stores everything ok in the HTML folders. All I did was manually upload the content of the HTML folder that XARA created via FTP software and all was fine.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Hi Everyone
Thank you for your continuous support whilst this problem is being investigated. We are working towards implementing a new solution which will ensure support for those running Windows 8.1 & IE 11 and hope to include this within a patch as soon as possible.
We’d currently recommend using a third party FTP tool such as WinSCP in order to publish your website.
1) Select File > Export Website and export your site to your chosen location.
2) Open WinSCP and connect via FTP to your web server (if you haven't already got it, here is the download: http://winscp.net/eng/download.php). Your host will have your FTP details (usually found in your account details).
3) Copy the files from the exported location to the required folder on your web server.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused by this issue. Please let me know if you get stuck at all
Kind Regards
Rob

Anyone try this? I'm not exactly very computer savvy, so before I try it, I want to be sure it actually works! :)

The recommendation is made by the Xara developers so you can be sure that it works.

Ok, I wasn't sure as the person that posted the instructions only has one post on the forum.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Hi All,
I have a similar problem however i still have the problem even when using Filezilla. I dont know what to do anymore.
Please have a look at www.furniture4u.co.za . You will see some of the pictures missing and even the navigation bar does not show up. So even with filezilla this happens. I made sure I uploaded all the files. The funny thing is I uploaded this same site 2 days ago with no problem. I also tried to upload a backup of the site but still have the same issues. Can someone please give me some advise on what to do?
I am using Windows 7.
Thank you

Your site is working ok for me in Firefox. Perhaps you need to clear your cache.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I am having the same problem!
WD9 (latest version according to the Update feature), Win 8.1 Pro/64bit.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I'm having a similar issue, but I believe it started after recent update to IE-11, that or a same-day update to Nvidia GeForce Experience/drivers is the problem. I'm running Win-7/64.
It started out with a Forms2GO form not displaying properly in IE-10, so I updated to IE-11. No change. Then, I noticed that Xara was uploading many more than just the recently changed files. Then, ALL my files at my webhost (GoDaddy and they are GREAT!) became truncated. They have an app for checking the HTML code of the file as part of their Linux front end.
So, I deleted all files and re-uploaded. Same problem.
Single pages display properly in Xara Preview, the entire website displays properly in Preview, the entire site displays properly no matter which browser is picked from the Preview site, however, if I go to an actual browswer window, the files are truncated!
When I get the answer, I'll post.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I fixed the problem with FTP publishing through Xara.
I uninstalled IE-11 through Control Panel/Programs/Windows Updates (click on IE-11 and select Uninstall) going back to IE-10.
Then re-published my site to GoDaddy.
Viola! Website is BACK!
Hope this helps someone!

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
Thanks for the info Jeack. However, uninstalling a standard Microsoft program (essentially downgrading) to accommodate a Xara program flaw isn't really a "fix".
Has anyone gotten word of a true Xara update/fix for XWD9P? It'd be nice if we had an ETR from them. At the very least, Xara should let us know what they're doing to resolve the issue.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I have observed that what is happeneing is that the corrupted files uploaded by Web Designer are being truncated to 1460 bytes. The other thing that is happening to me is that the whole web site gets uploaded every time, even though I make one small change to one page. I have selected the option to only upload changes.
I am using Windoes 7 64 bit. This definitely occurred after the recent "patch Tuesday" this November. For now I am uploading with Filezilla.

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
New update works. Great job, thank you!
-
Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I am using Windows 7. I installed the new update today and tried it. I still get the same problem of corrupted files. The corrupted files are truncated to 1460 bytes.
Maybe the fix only works for Windows 8 and 8.1?
-
Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
I installed the update and noticed two things:-
While the images appear to load fine (mostly), the .htm pages are truncated.
The program uploads all files - not only those requiring changes (even if the checkbox is ticked).
Come one guys! Fix this properly!
I am running Windows 8.1 and Xara 9.2.4.30310 DL x64 Nov 18 2013

You could try XaReg2 [link in my sig] and change the FTP connection type to Passive, if it's not already
Attachment 99524
Can always reverse that if needed

Re: pictures corrupt since updating to Windows 8.1 when using FTP publish
The latest patch - rev 9.2.4.30310 does not fix the FTP problems encountered by those using Internet Explorer 11. We are continuing to work on a solution to this and will be releasing a further update shortly.
Thank you for your continuous support.
