Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Here's the website I'm working on http://www.museum.tv/MBC_Redo_Site/index.htm
Creating a custom nav bar in the designs gallery was way to much for me. Why can't we just be able to select a nav bar in the designs gallery, ungroup it to edit the look of it, then simply have an option that says something like "use your own image"? Instead, that option is not there and the instructions to "create your own mouseover buttons" was way to complicated.
Anyway, just looking to somehow make the font yellow for the last option on the right - 'PRIVATE EVENT'.
I'm able to make in yellow in the program by highlighting with the text option then using "set fill color". But then when I upload it, it's in white text instead?

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Yes, but your mouse is over it Sledger. How do get it yellow mouse off?
-
Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Ah, you didn't say mouseoff layer as well..
OK, in Web Properties link tab, un check the item 'Use common website link colors'
Then you can colour the text as you wish.

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
It's the weirdest thing. It's yellow still in the program but even with the change you recommended, it's still white when uploaded.
Another question. How can I made those yellow box stay with the text when you hover over a button with your mouse? Since there was no option to upload a new button, I just paste each yellow box in next to the text. It's kinda annoying though how they go away when you hover the mouse over them.

Shouldn't do..
I'll create a file for you in about an hour after I get back from a job.

Sorry I was longer than expected.. :(
Here's a file which I think does what you are after?
I've added my own slant on it of course :)
Reverse engineer it to see how I've put it together.

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Hi Sledger,
Couple questions, do I just piece each nav 1, 2, 3 etc to make it whole inside my working.web file? Also, they told me I need to make the yellow nav item as the far right item on the menu bar, can I just use your far left located "nav 1" (the yellow font) as my right most nav bar item?
Thank-you! Todd

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Todd you can bake it any way you like it, my file just demonstrated the possibility and proof that it can do what I understood you needed.
So use my file as a reference to rework your own :)

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
OH, OK THANKS. i HAVE HAVING TROUBLE THOUGH expanding each nav bar. It won't expand to the same size as the old one. The trick to expanding and lengthening the old was to keep hitting the space bar after each word on the button. On yours, the button doesn't stretch when I hit the space bar for some reason.

Navbar properties >> Adjust button widths to labels.

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
There isn't a way to just change that text color for that one button in the pages and layer galleries is there? I see the button in there, and when I expand the group and see the "Text Line" for "PRIVATE EVENT" it's in white text. Would be so nice if I could just change the color for the text and that layer right there!

Who's file are you referring to now? Mine or your own?
Because with mine this is EXACTLY and PRECISELY what you can do, no problems at all - simples.. :)
If you are speaking about your own file, then please attach it to your post and I'll take a look!

Hi Sledger, I was referring to my own.
Actually you're right, yours is easier to use. But, can you do me a favor and make the yellow square more like the one I'm attaching? I'm attaching the square and the color of the original nav bar the graphic designer wanted me to use. I'm trying to match the red and the colored boxes.

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
I'm pretty sure you can match those colours without any help from me. Just use the colour picker on the colour line or in the colour editor.

How do you color just that yellow box?

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Ctrl+Click to select the yellow rectangle..
Or expand the group in the page and layer gallery then select the shape.
-
Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Hi Sledger,
OK when I do that "Ctrl+Click to select the yellow rectangle.." I can certainly delete the square, but there is no option to "replace" the square. I don't get the option to "replace" the current yellow square with the one I just copied or can import and replace? I still don't see how to do this. I just need that more golden square there to replace your bright yellow square. I can figure out how to color the rest of the nav bar the correct red.
Another annoying thing is when I delete your yellow square then "import" my new square, a access violation box always pops up asking me if I want to send this info to Xara? Then the program freezes up and I have to exit. I'm never gonna get that bright yellow square replaced at this rate! :(

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Update:
Sledger, here's a new copy and using your nav bar .. http://www.museum.tv/Fix/index.htm
As you can see, I still can't get the bright yellow boxes to be replaced. And and even bigger problem is, I can't get the whole thing to act as one nav bar. I can't create a soft group "because the selected objects are not compatible due to different anchoring". This is just not working at all for some reason.

Just replace the yellow colour using the colour picker to copy the 'golden' tile colour.

Delete all but the far left button and then from the Navbar dialogue, 'Double-click to add new button'
Changes made to attached file (you can handle the button background colour again ;) )

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
I don't know how you do it but you're amazing with this stuff! Even the color is great! =D>
What is the purpose though of the backing or nav bar that's kinda dead behind the main one? Once I added in the links it didn't get updated and just sits there.
So Sledger, do you work for Xara or just a user and fan? If your just a fan I think they should hire you based just on how much you know about those of us using the product.

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Sledger, I think I have one last question and then this website is done. I'm noticing inside Premium 9 there is a white frame around the page I'm working on and for all the pages for the website. But, then once I upload it the white frame around the perimeter of the page is gone.
As I look at some of these pages they wanted, they really could use that white page perimeter border. Do you happen to know how to add this?
Sledger, one more thing. I lost my dotted white line around the page in the program to help me know where the borders of the page are. How do I get this back?

Not gone, never there in the first place. This is just the page border guide while editing, it's not something that is ever applied to the design.
If you want to add a border to your page, create a large rectangle with a 1px line width and no fill then put it to the back (ctlr+b). You might need to do a bit of re jigging or just uncheck page clipping in Website properties.

If you are referring to the ruler guides, you may have accidentally hidden the guide layer - press '1' on the numeric keypad.
And no, I don't work for Xara - but yes, I should be paid tons of money.. Feel free :D

Re: Custom Navigation bar = pain!
Well seriously, I mean I seem to be helped by you more than support. You definitely deserve to be hired by Xara and you know your stuff.
Thanks for all your help again Sledger. I don't know what I would have done without it.
