Seamless tile program (free) - this is amazing!
Here is a link to a free seamless tile generator, Imagelys Picture Styles
This is what their website says about it:
"Imagelys Picture Styles is a way of creating an unlimited number of beautiful graphic images in a minimal amount of time. You can create seamless backgrounds for your desktop or your web page, original wallpapers, textures for 3D modelling, skins for your favorite programs, and much much more. You don't have to be an expert designer to be able to produce truly amazing results.
Imagelys Picture Styles generates seamless textures using mathematical formulae and works with ready-to-use effects including generators, deformers, filters, colour adjustments, special FX and masks for transparency. It presents a variety of textures that you can modify, mix etc. Ready to use."
It is possible to download lots of texture packs for the program, or use any image on your computer. The help file and website also feature lots of video tutorials which are easy to follow.
I found the program easy to use, and it has a huge amount of features that customise your textures with an infinite number of possibilities. Use of layers means that it is possible to blend different textures together.
I'd willingly pay a substantial amount for this product, which is a joy to use. I find it absolutely addictive! A small sample of the output attached.
Saludos,
Bob.

A pleasure, Nancy. I haven't had much time to play with this as I would have liked; snowstorms and powercuts for a few days. The electricity has been off most of the time during the past 3 days, as has the water supply.
Anyway, here are another two seamless tiles and the resulting fills.

I was running through the tutorials in an old (circa 1995) Corel PHOTO-PAINT 5 UNLEASHED book by David Huss and needed a seamless tile that I could import into XX. So I quickly found a photo of some coffee beans on stock.xchng vi and ran it through Imagelys Picture Styles.
What a fantastic little program! After watching a quick tutorial I was raring to go. I opened the coffee bean photo and had a usable seamless tile in minutes. If I hadn't played with the settings so much it would have been seconds... literally. Hey, it was my first time with the program. I just had to fiddle around with it a wee bit.
Anyway, this is a 'must have' program for anyone's graphic arsenal. Easy to use, spectacular results, and it's FREE to boot.
Thanks to Bob for finding it and Jean Bernard Roussilhe for coding it.
Definitely a keeper,
HayTay
P.S. Here's the tiled background image I made from the coffee beans photo using Imagelys Picture Styles v5...

Cool stuff, Rich. I like the way that it is possible with the program to "Resynthesize" any selection from any bitmap to create seamless tiles.

Here's a nifty idea using Paintshop Pro in conjunction with Imagelys Picture Styles. Many PSP users find their picture tubes a lot of fun to use and they are available free all over the internet. I picked up a set of Betty Boop tubes years ago, and I used PSP to copy each one, then opened them in Imagelys to create a seamless tile. Would make great wallpaper for any Boop aficionado.
Also, does anyone else have a problem using the ToolPalette Organizer? My copy has most of the options greed out. It would be useful to be able to import textures. Perhaps this is a limitation of the freeware edition, although I can find no mention of this on their website.

Bob,
You can manually add JPX files. I didn't see an option to save to that format.
You can load a texture then cut an paste it into a new layer. I don't know if you can do a mixing operation. Blending worked.
I have lots of PNG files Imade of various things, and I was able to use one to make a texture. It seems the program has one image per layer, and you just need to create additional layers.
No idea what the IPS format does.

Sea grass into a grayscale tile, and the tile used to texturized a couple of layers of the image.
