Re: The Golden Grate
Very nice colours John.
Were you wearing just one shoe? ;)
We don't get a 'fall' or Autum colours like that here unless the trees are introduced. No native deciduous trees here, though there is one in Tasmania.

Re: The Golden Grate
Nope.. that is just a trick of the prespective of the shot. If you notice the dock in the foreground it is parrallel to the camera, but the far side of the lake looks tilted. The camera was level on the tripod... Sometimes you just can't win.:)
Thanks for looking.

Re: The Golden Grate
Hey John I agree, I was just having a little fun :D
Still - why let a little perspective get in the way of some creative editing ;)
-
Re: The Golden Grate
Nice edit. The perspective did make it uncomfortable viewing I thought.
-
Re: The Golden Grate
I'd have done it even more simply ..... I'd just have turned it and cropped it to be square.
No offence John, but I have to admit I have difficulty believing that the camera was level on the tripod .... It just looks too far out of level .....
EDIT: Photograph removed -See below
-
Re: The Golden Grate
Keith that works of course, but removing the foreground dock looses some depth to the photo.
Also, you've removed Johns copyright which in reality, in spite of being edited by us, should be retained. ;)
-
Re: The Golden Grate
True - Just to be on the safe side, I will delete the picture.
Steve that was a nice seamless edit you did on it by the way. I can't see where it was edited.
-
Re: The Golden Grate
Keith, I cloned the photo, removed the bottom, rotated it to level the bank (against a guide) then used a linear transparency on the rotated cropped clone to blend at the river level into the untouched copy beneath.
Less that 30 seconds to make a lovely scene comfortable to view.
At the mention of tripods, a small string-level is useful to help check the tripod is true. Though I must admit I rarely bother with a tripod now that I have learned how not to shake when I shoot ;)

Re: The Golden Grate
Nice edits guys...
Anything below 1/30 with an IST DS and you will start to blur with the camera handheld. The higher the F-Stop (the wider the DOF) the longer the exposure has to be to see anything. For instance, this shot from today has an exposure too long with out a tripod. When I have the time, I use a tripod and a remote release. It makes for a cleaner sharper picture, even at shorter exposures.

Re: The Golden Grate
Isn't it fascinating how the photo appears to have been scribbled over with a white pen?
Well caught John. I can almost hear that one
-
Re: The Golden Grate
Thanks Steve.
I have know idea how or what the white "scribbles" are. It was probably just the glint on the water as it was captured over the exposure.

Here is a picture of the "real deal".
I worked in the City today, just outside of the Golden Gate Park, near Sea Cliff.

Re: The Golden Grate
Nice shot Andy!
I sure am glad I don't live in that neck of the woods. Too much smog and haze for any really good shots. We have had 4 out of 7 days with perfectly blue skies, no clouds, no haze, no smog. Makes me sad to sit in the office on days like these.
BTW: The topic is Golden Grate, not Golden Gate... A play on words so to speak...:D

Re: The Golden Grate
Yeah thanks, I only noticed that play on words after I posted the GG bridge photo.
I really need to get my eyes checked!

Re: The Golden Grate
Great shots John.
We get good autumn scenes here. Steve just lives too far north.

Re: The Golden Grate
Rupert,
If you have any shots from last season, post one or two...
-
Re: The Golden Grate
I'd love to be shooting some autumn color...but we don't get much of a change of seasons in Miami, FL. The closest thing we get to fall colors is in a very popular landscaping plant called a croton.

Re: The Golden Grate
I spent some time in that neck of the woods. There is just 2 seasons there. Hot and Freeze your tail off. I have never felt so cold. 40 Degrees at 100% humidity is horrid.
That is why I like this neck of the woods... I get all 4 seasons but not enough of them to make me dread going outside.

Re: The Golden Grate
John,
Nice waterfall. I see highlights in many shots. You don't notice it as much in place because things are moving.
Only thing happening here is a lot of trees are dying and falling into houses. A large Fur tree fell across the road and the road was closed for about eight hours.

John nice work I love this time of the year
greetings

Re: The Golden Grate
Hi Rich,
Fall is weird in this neck of the woods also. Some trees are green, some are gold, some are green and gold. It is hard to find a nice shot. I years past I could get shots of an entire hill side in fall colors. This year, I am lucky if I get an entire tree in full color.
Thanks for looking Germaine.

Thanks Lilu...
I had a few moments today so I stepped outside and took a few minutes to take a few test shots. this shot is with an accentuating filter and a circular polarizing filter. The first filter brought out the golds and the CPL brought out the beautiful clear blue sky.
