Adding media file problem
Greetings to you all!
New guy from Noway here.
I have of course searched around for quite a while now, but seems I need some help!...
Suddenly I can't add any media files to Web Designer 11.?
That is no music or video files at all! Not even widgets!
As soon as I drop a file on it, Xara crash with the "Xara stopped working" notice..
If I try adding .flv to a placeholder nothing happens all.. -In browser the placeholder is not even visible..
Have done several clean installs, and even deleted all personal files!
Really appreciate any help!
Sincerely
/Orre

Re: Adding media file problem
Welcome to TalkGraphics Orre
I have no idea why this is happening. If you don't get any help here file a support ticket at http://support.xara.com (But wait until the new year since most Xara employees are on holiday).

Re: Adding media file problem
Thank you!
Thinking about it, I don't recall using media files with Web Designer after installing Windows 10...
Also, several clean installs of Xara software without making any difference, points in the direction of this being a Win10 related problem!?..
Then I would certainly not be alone?... :p
Any ideas?
/Orre
Ps) Maybe add (Win10) to the header please..

Re: Adding media file problem
I am having the same issue . I just purchased today Jan-01 2016 and when I drag a mp4 video file in to web designer I go through the normal question of asking me if I want the movie to auto start or not .
Then when I click an error message pops up saying web designer has stopped working and the program closes completely
Also tried the you tube widget and has the same issues
Have tried everything
I am using windows 10 64 bit with all the latest updates

Yep, same here!..
Haven't tested the issue on the WD11 Premium 64 bit version though.. (trial expired)
Maybe someone could do a check?..

Re: Adding media file problem
As stated I my post
I am on Web Designer 11 Premium 64 Bit full version (windows 10 64 bit) and you can no longer drag any media files like an mp4 video. I tried using the you tube widget as well with the same issues.
Once you drag an mp4 video you will first receive this message which is normal
Attachment 111337
Then when you select an option you will get this
Attachment 111338
This when the program will quit and close down.
It seems it will not accept any media files . I then tried experimenting and tried an mp3 file just to see what would happen and the same thing happens.

Re: Adding media file problem
So confirmed same exact problem with both 32 and 64 bit WD11 versions then. (on Win10 64bit)
Got it to work putting the flashplayer in a html placeholder.
Crashes immediately trying any wysiwyg editing, or even hitting preview though...

Re: Adding media file problem
I am getting the same issue with W10 64-bit for XWD11P and XDPX11.

Re: Adding media file problem
Sure frustrating!
I'm no good at this stuff, and have just copied the coding from elsewhere...
But anyway, here's my HTML Placeholder for running a flash video if it could help anyone in a jam.
My video, obviously called "jubileum.flv" resides in the "yourindex_htm_files" folder.

Code:
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" id="retail_video_player" width="100%" height="100%" align="middle">
<param name="movie" value="index_htm_files/retail_video_player.swf"/>
<param name="flashvars" value="url=jubileum.flv&sound=true&loop=false&tooltip=true&autoplay=false&swfborder=true&bgcolor=0x000000&bgalpha=0.1"/>
<param name="wmode" value="transparent"/>
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/>

Re: Adding media file problem
I sent a support ticket and also sent a link to this thread. Will have to wait for a answer
I have deleted Uninstalled ,reinstalled and tried several different settings with mp4 files
Also tried you tube widget and anything else to do with media files resulting in the same issue
Even tried compatibility mode resulting in same issue
My specs are
Windows 10 64 bit(with latest updates)
Web designer 11 premium with all the most recent updates
Looks like it will have to be an update fix to resolve

but now it crashes the program!! I hope this will be solved soon, I need it to go on working! I already sent a support ticket too, no answer up till now!

Re: Adding media file problem
Hi,
Apologies, this has been brought to our attention and our developers are looking into it immediately.
So far this seems to occur with the YouTube and trying to import an mp3 widget, as well as re-sizing or regenerating the preview window with current documents that have these within as well. Also, those with the problem all seem to be on Windows 10, I get a feeling MS may have pushed an update out which has upset Xara. Please let me know if you discover this problem with any other widget or object.
Apologies for the inconvenience.

Re: Adding media file problem
Same issue with dragging mp4 videos
-
Re: Adding media file problem
The issue is not just with the you tube widget but also as mentioned any MP4 video file you try to drag in to a page.
So far it happens with MP4 videos, you tube video widget and also any mp3 files
Have not seen any other issues except for those so far

Re: Adding media file problem
All other widgets are working fine, is all related to video content, and yes, I think is related with Windows 10 users...

Re: Adding media file problem
Hi all
Try this: unistall Windows 10 update KB3132372, it seems to be this update that "buggered up" the software.
It worked for me ☺

Re: Adding media file problem
A little update I guess:
Yes, MS released this update which caused the issue:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3132372
As mentioned in the article:
"We are aware of limited application crashes that occur after this security update is installed on Windows 10."
It has broken many things including Skype:
http://www.infoworld.com/article/301...ail-games.html
https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player...ase_notes.html claims this was fixed on 1st Jan but MS need to roll out the fix to Win 8 and 10. Presumably it takes them a few days to build a windows update patch and run it through their release procedure.
Any widget which has flash will cause this issue. For some reason YouTube is passing the flash version of their videos back to Xara which we're not sure why. mp3/4 widgets are flash which is why it is crashing when generating the preview. We will be pushing to have these use HTML5 as standard rather instead. Trying to embed Facebook videos will also result in a crash.
Thanks
Rob

Rob,
Thank you for the update. You mention MP3 and MP4 widgets will crash but does this include the issues with dragging a simple MP4 video file on to a page and will be addressed with an update from Xara?

Dragging an mp4 onto your document will create the widget to play it. We are waiting a fix from MS to fix the crashing so no patch for that but in order for mp3/4 files to use HTML5 first instead of flash we will need to release a patch. I can't say when this would be (if we can get it approved), releasing a patch is not an overnight feat.
If you are desperate, you could remove kb3132372 from your system which would then work, however MS will install it again soon after. Details on how to do this are in the previous article.
I myself had high hopes for Win10, but will shortly be returning to Win7 lol

Re: Adding media file problem
The following work around will enable you to hide the update in windows 10 and ensure it will not install again as a temporary measure. Here is the link from microsoft on how to hide the update from installing. There is a standalone program to hide the update. It has affected not only Xara but a lot of applications world wide

Thanks mysteryspy2001
Indeed it appears the problem is resolved however we will keep the report open and monitor the widgets / work towards moving away from flash.
Apologies for all the inconvenience caused.
