PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi there,
am I wrong, or does the embedding of color profiles no longer work in Designer Pro 6?
Try to export as PDF.
Preset Selections: Custom.
Click on Advanced Options.
Choose Pre-Press.
Here I chose a custom color profile (PSRgravureHWC.icc), which significantly changes the colors.
Everything worked okay in Xtreme Pro 5.
But now, when I switch on Embed profile, the resulting PDF shows the same colors, as if the switch was not ticked.
Anyone else noticed that? Or am I missing something?
ANY comments on this welcome!
bye:maak.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
I too was wondering about that.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
There are a couple of things wrong in Xara6 PDF export that i'm still pin pointing down and hope to be able to report soon. It's almost like Xara6 got a entire new PDF engine. There are definately very old bugs back that I had encountered.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
That sounds interesting... to say the least. I do hope that there will a quick fix for that issue.
I wish, those people at Xara would frequent these forums more often and write us a few lines, so that we can see, they are aware of our problems.
I'm using Designer Pro for a lot of print work and am going to be a little tiny...
desperate :-(

Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Your colour profile is going to give you changes in colour as it's a CMYK profile. This has happened for years and I can't see much change in the PDF that I have done with D Pro6. I have done now 4 jobs for print since the new programme became available and the output is what I expected from Fogra.
I tried and was successful in setting up custom profile (X-Rite iCColor) but I haven't printed yet but I am into work tomorrow so I will get a wet copy and see if the changes are as large as you state. If there was a large change in the PDF engine I would have thought that Xara would have really gone to town and publicised it. Don't know mind you my runs have been fine.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi Maak,
I'm a developer of the PDF export filter for Xara.
Unfortunately I can't reproduce this, when I export a simple rectangle with gradient fill, set the export options to Custom, CMYK, custom ICC profile PSRgravureHWC.icc, and "Embed profile" button, I get the .pdf file of size 1.7MB, and the profile is in the file. When I unchek "Embed profile", the result pdf is 5KB in size. Could you be more specific - what version of the filter are you using and what type of a design do you export. Ideally I need a sample .xar design that shows the problem.
Thanks.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi mega,
it's so good to hear from you :-)
I'm going to post a .xar and give you some specific data about that issue tomorrow.

Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi Mega - Good to have you here.
Is there any progress for grayscale support and spot color bitmap support?

Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Here we go again.
I use the following program versions:
Xara Xtreme Pro 5 - 5.1.2.10703 CD
Xara Designer Pro 6 - 6.1.1.13205 DL
The color profile i use still is PSRgravureHWC.icc.
The PDF version i chose is ISO15930-1.
I attached the .xar file, as well as
- a pdf from 6 without embedded profile (578 KB)
- a pdf from 6 with the profile embedded (576 KB)
- a pdf from 5 without embedded profile (575 KB)
- a pdf from 5 with the profile embedded (zipped, originally 2,309 KB)
This should be enough for now. Give me a hint, if you need more infos.
bye:maak.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Thanks Maak,
I figured out what was wrong and fixed this issue. The version of the PDF filter is 4,0,0,8. Thanks for your cooperation!
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Mega, any chance of resolving the problem of PDF exporting arrowheads (and arrow "ends") will a solid fill?

Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi Gary,
Could you please be more specific on these two issues? Maybe they have bugzilla numbers or you can point out separate threads that discuss these issues? I'm new to this forum
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi Mega - we have discussed here the black & white/grayscale problem when taking these files to a printer.
As Gary has asked, do you see a fix for these problems any time in the near future?
At this point, I see no reason to upgrade from XX5 - or even 4, for that matter - until this issue is fixed as almost everything I do is in black & white/gray scale.
There is a thread here that discusses the issues - and we have been discussing this issue for some 2 years at least, both here and with Xara support and the "fix" to use someone else s program just does not make sense to me.
Tks for the help - jb
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Sorry to inconvenience you, but I would like to point out another bug of pdf export with spot colors.

It would be nice if pdf output could match separations as in "show printer Colors"

You're welcome :)
May I ask what this means for us users?
Is there any possibility, that there will be a small update containing the fix?
thx.in.advance:maak.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Me again.
Another two months passed, but still no info about a fix or minor update.
So, Xara, what are you going to do about this issue?
Version 6 is of very limited use for print, without color profile embedding, eh?
grmpf:maak.
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Me again... again.
There was exactly the same issue in the german MAGIX version of Designer Pro 6.
They made an update to version 6.1.3.14789 dated 17th December.
I would very much appreciate to receive such an update for my (and your) original english Xara version.
What's going on in there with you, Xara?
I can't believe it takes months for you to take notice.
The program is still almost useless for pre-print.
Please, fix it!
bye:maak.

Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Sorry maybe I am missing understanding your request here, but please have a look at the .png file. If you go advance in the PDF export and under the General tab and you select PDF/X -1a the go to the Pre-press tab and tick the box - Embed Colour profile, then go up to the top box and select - Custom. Now browse for your custom profile which you have placed in your windows area under _ C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color see attachment!
Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Hi Albacore,
thank you for your post, but I'm afraid you're missing my first post here.
I did exactly what you described.
Thanks anyway.

Re: PDF: No more color profile embedding?
Phoned up my work and asked what profile PSR gravure HWC.icc was and where should it be used. The description I got back that it was an out of date profile for printing on thickish paper which had been replace 3 years ago by PSR_LWC_Plus_V2_PT.icc. Now I don't know anything really about this subject so therefore I can't offer an opinion but what my mate also stated that when this was introduced in 2009 they all notice a colour shift with the new profiles. I did a really quick search on this and it was verified by the google results.
