just wondering if anyone had had any success using cushy cms to update web designer sites. looking to create a couple of sites for people who want to update their own and this looks like an ideal option.
problem is you have to denote 'editable areas' via the sites code and i havent come across a way to do that with web designer so far.

"XWD generates the HTML layout from the design content that you have created in XWD. It includes multiple pixel positioned fields to represent the layout precisely. Populating the page (now acting as a template) from a CMS would bypass that layout mechanism. XWD generates many separate fields positioned for the original content that would not be suitable for different content generated by a CMS."
The only real way to do it would be with placeholders, but you would need to give up (in those sections) the text formating and text layout that XWD gives you.
It would not be at all possible to have user editable text that flowed around an image, for example.

Adobe InContext Editing (ICE) can do this. But unfortunately, it only works with Dreamweaver CS4. I just wrote a review of ICE. It is pretty cool and uses named DIV tags, something I am sure Xara/John could work out.
The webmaster determines the level of changes the client can make, from simple text changes and updates, to styles, uploading photos and adding hyperlinks.
Xara already has the technology in Xara OnLine Site Updater. And they have offered this service for years.
That's as may be, but it won't allow simple editing of blocks of text that have been entered using XWD, because they are in separate DIV tags - one for each line.
The real difficultly is that inline editing of a generated page bypasses the layout management that XWD uses. Dreamweaver would (most likely) have all text to be edited inside one DIV tag and the layout of the page is controlled using CSS rules. XWD bypasses that to break up text blocks into a lot of separate DIVS.
It is possible to substitute text using a CMS, but it's not convenient nor would it work as users might expect.
thanks for your replies guys - bit disappointing so i suppose its struggle on with deamweaver for cms sites, although 'cushy' does mean that everybody doesnt have to have a copy of contribute.
Hi I've been using Cushy but now prefer surrealcms which gives a better WYSIWYG UI if you upload a css to the surreal site.

The trick is to create editable regions and add the content via the cms rather than XWM

I like this a lot! Were you able to add this CMS functionality while within XWD or does it require manipulation of the exported HTML?
Perhaps you can indicate what parts of the site are populated via the CMS - a quick look at the source didn't make it very obvous.Quote:

Thanks J2R. It's populating a fixed placeholder and I guess it does the job. People would need to take care that they understand that the example only has a particular panel that is under the control of the CMS and the rest is static.

No, it's not static. I see the dynamic page tweak is used in this page. The page is resized when downloaded to fit the content. If you are lucky (i.e. have a slow enough connection ;) ), you can notice how the page is stretched dynamically.Quote:

I use an old freeware program called Open Site Editor which uses ASP script to create an editable (textarea) page. This is basically a blank page that is set up to be editable using the <!--BEGIN EDITABLE-->
(this is where your editable content goes)
<!--END EDITABLE--> tags.
This page exists on your server and is independent of the XWD pages that are uploaded. Then I use the placeholder function of XWD to insert this page into the XWD page. It works very well for me. If you don't have asp capabilities, there are other freeware programs that can do the same thing. The key is to create the content page as a separate page and insert using a placeholder. When publishing your page (frontpage, dreamweaver) make sure that you have the content page set to "not publish" (after you have everything set up) otherwise you will overwrite you client's current page with your initial set up page.

This might be out of left field for this thread, but I'm desperate for some CMS help and because of my inexperience on IT side, it's mind numbing
I’m looking for some help in solving a dilemma I’m having in creating a custom CMS for my website that was created in WD6…actually I’m approaching the desperate stage of solving this problem.
Some background: I have few technical/IT skills but I created my website, www.the247newsroom.com with WD6 and I’m pleased with the site’s overall look. WD6 is a terrific program and especially good for a pure content person like myself. It’s hard to beat the WYSIWYG approach. Most of the pages on my site are relatively static. So when I have changes to make changes in a few sections, I can easily make the changes and upload the edited page without a hassle.
But here’s the problem:
I have a section called: “Media News At This Hour.” In this section I want the content to be dynamic. For example, in the early morning I post detailed content about changes, development and personnel shifts in the broadcast news industry. That’s fine and easy to do, but the problem comes when I want to update at several other points throughout the day…pasting in fresh content as it develops during the day.
Obviously it also becomes a potential nightmare trying to archive all this content.
I’d like my users to be able to call-up that content at some later time…in effect creating a CMS system so people can retrieve that story.
I’ve had a ton of suggested solutions of how to do it in WD6…some of which are from these boards
People have suggested that I convert the entire website to WordPress…which of course takes me away from WD6…and costs me time and ultimately money.
Some have suggested that I have a CMS system built in WordPress and then tie it into that “News At This Hour” using I-frames…another has suggested some sort of Feedburner configuration and tie it in. Another suggestion is to use Google docs but one moderator, Steve Ledger, didn’t think that would work for me. I think Steve is right. The Iframes look clunky and I can’t seem to master creating the CMS in Wordpress.
Realizing my limitation I decided to reach out for some professional help.
So, after going around and around, I solicited freelance help online at freelance.com and bid the work out, ultimately winding up with a person thousands of miles away. Unfortunately there have been some communication barriers in getting this right. Clearly the person didn’t understand the program and template environment of WD6.
Actually this morning we mutually agreed to cancel the project…the Xara software is something that he’s not familiar with and was suggesting a total rebuild of my site.
So here I am, stuck a
nd trying to figure out what to do next. The technical issues are beyond me. Can anyone direct me to a person, place or solution?
Although my IT skills are limited I’ve found solutions to my WD6 issues, but I can’t seem to get my head or skills around the CMS issue.
My site is up and almost ready to go – http://www.the247newsroom.com but this cms/archive problem is a mind-numbing mystery for me.
I’d like to stick with WD without have the whole site having to be rebuilt in Wordpress.
It does help and thank you. Let me check out your site and see the specifics. You probably are much tougher in evaluating it, but do you find the differences considerable -visibile to the routine user? Is it costly to convert the site over to WordPress. At this point, after so much work on Design 6, it breaks my heart to have to go back and think about doing the whole thing in WordPress...I'm not sure I have the energy. But the I-frames look chunky and not quite right.

I have reloaded the files that seem to have been affected by this. I think it's ok again - just brosed to it, didn't get redirected or anything unusual.

Yes I do! - Even clearing all the caches, It still comes up. Try it yourself in an Opera browser.
I see the same warning in Opera as well.
Scott, just reloading your site from backups won't get your off the Yandex fraud list (Used by Opera for the Blacklistings).

You will also need to contact godaddy as your site still appears to be compromised.

I figured as much for Opera (using a thrid party list that will need to be cleared) and I see the redirect happening when using Chrome here as well.
I don't know where the "infection" is, as I've replaced the files and checked the DNS (which is actually at Comcast, pointing to a Godaddy host). It must be compromised at the server itself or something, as I even checked all the code inside the home.html file and there is nothing there pointing to any other domains - code seems intact.

Alright - one more time.
I have checked all of the files and such in this site (and actually one other on the same Godaddy account).
I had missed that the two xara .js files were also compromised, not just the html. I have gone though all of them and looked for everything that was changed yesterday, including all of the Wordpress files (many of which were replced or modified).
I loaded the site in both Chorme and Opera (with fraud protection turned on) and I got no warnings or redirects. Anyone have the guts to check this from their end?
Anyone know of a way to avoid this happening? It's happened on another host (DOT5) as well. I think it's unavoidable unless you pay for a service to keep it away. In both cases, it looks like a hack on the hosting provider itself, as all of the files that were changed we at the exact same moment - done by a bot or script through the directories, as it was with my DOT5 issue - who issued a hosting-wide password reset the following day after my complain.
I'm still going to contact Godaddy to make sure that they are aware and see if they heard of other issues.
In the meantime - back to the thread!
This is not good at all. I assume you've done a system scan? Cushy CMS sounds great but I won't give anyone my clients server information outside of my server for just this possible out come.Code:two xara .js files were also compromised, not just the html

Cushy CMS was not involved in this compromise - just to be clear.
I've never used Cushy. There is no reason anyone should have been able to get into that site except for a compromise at the host (godaddy) itself. At least 50 files on two clients sites were changed all within a matter of seconds. This was a bot attack of some sort.
The site in questin here uses a wordpress.org Blog which also has no access to the actual FTP of the web server either - just the databases it uses.
That's good to know that Cushy CMS is solid. I hope everything gets resolved by GoDaddy to your satisfaction quickly.
