Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
The Update Facility has a mind of its own; it rarely works for me.
I am sure there are lots of snippets in the "Other fixes" part but sadly no forward link on Xara's website.

I often have to manually make the programs check for the update. You can do this by going into the help menu select check for updates and the program will find the update and you will be able to run the installer.
If this doesn't work then I would suggest opening a ticket with xara support.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
The update was announced when I restarted X10 a short while ago. If you close and reopen X10, the update message should pop up automatically. I don't believe that it will pop up if you already have the program open. Or just go to Help....
Update went smoothly and restarted X10. No problems yet.

I have a second instance as a 64-bit version and if I open it, it will not detect the Update.
I am sure it is probably my firewall blocking it, which is a good thing I suppose.

Can you get the update to work by temporarily disabling your firewall? I have had to disable mine (for a different software not Xara) before and I made very sure that it was back up as soon as the installation was done.

Still don't understand the grouped object resizing function but at least the undo feature seems to work correctly now.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
thanks to Xara for this update. Damn if I can figure out why the default behavior stretching groups from the side acts like this. I group 3 shapes and stretch from the right...one object moves. From the left the other 2 move. If this isn't a bug, I am an idiot. Yes, holding down alt gives correct behavior.

it means the default behaviour is geared towards DTP; - try it with two separate lines of text that have been grouped - they move apart without stretching [distorting] the text, as you might want in header and footers in DTP
so either DTP has more priority, or maybe Xara thinks DTP users are less likely to want to mess with key modifiers...

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
Actually, it's a Web Designer 10 feature. I believe the feature is meant to make it easier to quickly change the width of footers and headers when creating variants for responsive sites. I can see though where it could be handy for DTP too. I think the solution would be a button on the upper toolbar to toggle it.

yes that would make sense - I don't tend to think in terms of website building as you know, not being one to bark myself in that respect..... well we do all know where Xara's priorities lie when it comes to illustration vrs web ...

Agh that's the same behavior(/bug?) I got when I trialed web designer 10. In the release version of DP10 it was fine but now the latest update has made it behave like this. I really hope they don't leave it like this.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
I suppose a photo in Xara is is a photo winthin a rectangle so technically it is a group. I can understand what Xara is trying to achieve but I don't believe it's doing it the right way. If you just select the photo & use one of the resizing handles on the side instead of squashing the photo it just cuts more & more of the photo off. You can avoid this by holding down the Alt key & it squashes in the old manner.

Images are clipped objects. So what it sounds like they have done is made it so one can clip the photo further without resorting to using the Shape Tool and selecting nodes.
If I had X10, I would rather have the former behavior back.

I agree Mike,
I see the point of the behaviour but I'd much prefer it to work in the normal (old) manner and have to select Alt to clip the photo.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
well it's the 'fix it or die' thing isn't it that Kate mentioned ... Xara just had to get responsive web building covered or the product was dead.. and this is part of that 'rush' ... in due course it will be an option I hope, maybe as Frances suggested, a toggle button or a setting in options;
hopefully they won't just leave it as a registry fix

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
Egg have you tried stretching it out horizontally as well - the handles move and width dimension changes but the actual photo doesn't resize at all. It's like resizing an invisible frame or clipping shape instead of the actual photo.
Here's another weird example: Create a rectangle and group it with a smaller photo positioned on top of it. Now use the right horizontal handle to make the group longer/wider. Instead of the photo stretching in the group or perhaps moving to the right with the rectangle it starts to get cropped and eventually disappears.

I have it on good authority that when the updated version of XaReg comes out, there will be an option to disable this behavior. Three cheers for XaReg!

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
it is fine Eric if you want it one way or the other all/most of the time [and in this instance that may well be true] - but it should not be necessary these things should be in the options, which is not to decry the effort that goes into XaReg, but you need to leave the program and then reload it, no fun to do repeatedly

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
I don't disagree with you at all. I would have liked to see a toggle in the options menu. However for folks like you and I who, 1) don't really do much web work and 2) know how to avoid squashing text on the rare occasion when we do resize a web document footer, having the behavior disabled with XaReg will be a huge relief/time saver. I haven't given up hope that Xara will add something to the options menu. Over at XU I posted some additional buggy behavior after the patch came out. Perhaps when Xara fix the bug(s) they can add the option item as well.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
Perhaps this oddity was a necessity due to adding variants. It certainly isn't a big deal to hit ALT while re-sizing horizontally. Counter-intuitive? Yes. I suspect we can expect a great deal of "what the hell?" posts on this issue. Perhaps a sticky in the forum will help.

You know...even the simple change of this being the default behavior on only web documents would be an improvement. Even then, I would still like the ability to turn this behavior off. Just my $.02.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
Hmm the text one makes some sense to me and might be handy in the long run (at least for paragraphs of text rather than say logo/image design) and it will also help prevent the problem that problem people would get when their exported web text didn't match slightly stretched text in the editor. I guess you should be able to hold alt and stretch it though which currently you can't.
It also looks like the behavior is different for the different text areas, so text columns and text boxes wrap with horizontal handle movement and a simple text object resizes keeping aspect ratio. I think I like this change but not so much the affects on photo resizing.

Re: Update All v10 products: 10.1.2.35097
about sums it up Xtom :), nothing against change if it is useful and does not take away other useful things [which has unfortunately happened in the past] -
it would be fine if it:
1} was properly selectable in options
2] worked on what it was useful for, without unintended consequences elsewhere - no one from Xara has said what this is actually for in any meaningful way, it's not in release notes [or did I miss it] - we have what Frances passed on, but that's just a statement of application, not 'how this should work' - is there any detail in the manual? - I don't know because I am not upgrading, I will download the updated trial version now it is available and see if there is anything I can add - but it would be really useful if we were told what this was supposed to be for in detail

The Paste Position feature is broken too.
Create two different rectangles in two different places. Copy one rectangle Ctrl+C then use the Paste Position toolbar button. It moves it to a position nowhere near where you copied.
I was trying to match up object positions across different pages and stumbled on it.
