very slow rendering extrusion
I include the .xar, somehow the rendering takes forever, even on my dualcore, it is a bug or something or does it just take that long?
B E C A R E F U L L / W A R N E D ! ! ! ! Takes really long.
When I try to turn/move the logo when in the extrude mode
it takes forever to rerender.

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Took me to the xarapro4 then just hung up. and it's only 6.7k.

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Yep, that's slow all right.. It pegged all four cores at 100%, used 300 megs of ram and took about 3 minutes to display.
It's got all 4 of my cores pegged at 100% and it's ground through about 300 megs worth of memory while I've been watching it (and I can't even see anything yet).
I removed the extrusion to see that the drawing is quite simple, then hit undo too many times so it's rendering again. And of course while it's rendering the task manager says it's not responding, but once it's done rendering, everything is back to normal.
Seems sort of bug-ish to me, given that it's just some simple text and 4 shapes. More importantly if the group to be extruded contains just the text or just the coffe cup image there's no slowdown at all. The combination of the two of them together makes it take a fair bit of time.

I was wondering if it was just my machine.
I will put the logo xar here to let you see that it is almost nothing.
Then you can do the extrude on your own machine and see if it does the same. the settings are 30% bevel. I gave the line some color.
tried to turn the extrude a bit and suddenly it halted to an almost stop.
edit: I did it again and after moving the extrude about a bit the same thing happened again.

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Hi,
It's the text that can't be extruded

well, it was extruded, only when I move it, it freezes.
so if I change my text to editable shapes it should work fine?
I mean I have extruded text before and it worked fine.
But I give it a try.
edit: hmm it seems to happen when I give the sides(line) a color???
tried it again and it happens when I give the side(line) a color.

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
yes I agree about the colour - your second file seems ok - still looking at the first - it is slow
-
Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Hi,
Tried it with single word and single textline anf works great
But when using textarea it's the end of session for me

Hmm I changed the text to edible shapes, so that should have done the trick.
It didn`t, but when I added a color for the side, it hang very soon after.

my second file was the naked logo.
It was for people to extrude it and then try to move
it and do as I did to see if the same thing would happen.
they would have to extrude it set it to 30% bevel and add
a color to the side(line), the color adding made my machine freeze.
I wondered if people would follow the same things I did it would
happen to them too.
Also change page size to 100%.

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
is this any better?
made from your second file
-
Re: very slow rendering extrusion
yes sorry
I meant that I did not seem to have a problem extruding your second file, but was not sure what was wrong with first

Yep it seemed better, until I switched the page size to 100%
Could you check that to and change the sidecolor too?

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Your first file takes a very long time to open. Not sure why.
Your second file opens quickly. Adding an outline colour works and so does an extrusion.

have you set it to 100%?
yes you did and your file works fine.
pretty weird.

Gave it a go here,no problems with adding a colour to the line tho

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
ankhor - I agree
changing line colour is no problem - but setting to 100% zoom is
-
Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Yes Dennis that was the first thing I did.

I know, the file from soquili is fine, I just don`t get it.

Yeah I changed it in the edit, I saw you did, and your file is fine here, but mine
isn`t, and I don`t seem to be alone? It's a weird bug ;)

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
might be a redraw issue / graphics card - mines nvidia 7200

Yeah but try it in with the example given it might be something in the object itself that does this, and if you try it on something else it might not reproduce.
-
Re: very slow rendering extrusion
bills file seems ok - so not a card issue then ... hummm...

I have an ATI radeon x800 GTO, but it might be a shading issue or something.
I can`t play the newer games.
Strange thing is, Soquili's file doesn`t freeze (yet?)

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
when i first did it I just added line color - this is tagged in the info bar as 'many'
Bill's example has a line clolour of uniform 1pix - this may be the answer ?

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
Ah, I see you edited while I was typing :)
I have had very slow rendering happen when I tried to extrude a blend.
-
Re: very slow rendering extrusion
One thing came to mind when looking at your file;
You have multiple line widths applied, maybe that's the case
**You where already there i see**
Hans

The thing is, in your file when I add a color it gives a linethikness of 1
but when I do it on my machine it gives many. which is weird since there
were no lines in the original logo. And when I change the 'many' in '1' the
logo extrusion dioesn`t freeze.
I now wonder why your copy just gives one while mine shows many???
And thanks everyone for al the help, atleast I now know how to prevent
the slow rendering.

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
You used three font sizes, fonts are considered lines, not shapes
One 28,06 and one 129,37 and one 116,88
Hans
-
Re: very slow rendering extrusion
I changed the line thickness to 1 pixel manually. It originally was many but looked too thick when I changed the zoom to 100%.
Before changing to 1 pixel line thickness the extrude was still very responsive and did not freeze on my system.

Ah, but I also changed it to editable shapes a couple of times
and it still happened, but thanks for the help all of you, atleast I now know what to do when it reoccurs, and maybe there will be a fix for this because it might happen to others too.

Maybe just in time, it would work for a short while at 100% but
when you moved it too much it suddenly would freeze.
But atleast we know now how to prevent it.

If I drop a color on the side, it freezes in your file.
It still gives a 'many' in the lines. So that doesn`t work for me.

Yes it does,Uhmm

I know it drove me crazy too.
I just will chose for linethickness 1 for all
objects I extrude,that way I know I will be save. ;)
And Soquili (Bill) found it out, maybe by accident, but still,
you saved the day again Bill. ;)

Re: very slow rendering extrusion
changed the fonts to shapes, then made your objects one shape
selected all and changed the line width(0,25 works too),grouped
And then extruded
(this seems to be the right sequence i think)

yep, that worked.
as long as you have one line thickness it seems.
Thanks for the work.
