DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
file this under DUH...
I just started playing with Xtreme yesterday. I downloaded a free plug-in from a resource listed on this forum to test the ability to bring in new plug-ins.
I unzipped it, put it in a folder called xara/plugins and then pointed Xtreme there using the SETUP button...
Okay, I don't see the plugins anywhere - I even shut down and restarted Xtreme...
I must be missing something REAL simple...
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
You might list the plugin name and see if someone has used it. Not all plugins are compatible, and those may not show. Not everything I have pointed to shows on the list. Rich
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
oh, it's a plugin called KIWI
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
You need to configure your setup so it is pointing to the parent folder in which the plugin resides, not to the plugin itself- AF
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
I made a folder called Kiwi, and extracted the filters to that folder. I pointed to the Kiwi folder. I have enable host specific plugins checked. Don't know what that does, though. The filters were accessible and useable. Rich
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
okay, just so I'm clear...
when you install a plugin
- point to the folder it's in (there is no way to point to the file...)
- then it should show up when you {select bitmap, click the plug-in tool, click new... it should be there in the drop down with the others?}

Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
I have a separate plugin folder for external plugins. There are plugin folders with other applications as well. I point to specific folders to access particular plugins. If I pointed to the main folder, everything would show. If you point to a Photoshop plugin folder, you would see most of the filters. The PS filters may show, but may not work.
I extracted the Kiwi plugins to a folder, and pointed to that folder. These are just extracted from a zip file.
I would expect you would see the plugin listed. Make sure the files are where you expect them to be.

Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Remember X1 and Xtreme are two separate installations. Each has its own plugin setup. Just in case your setting up from the other version. Rich
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Nope, I'm using the setup button inside Xtreme to do the setup.
Of course I just thought of something - I'm using the DEMO... I have not purchased it yet... I wanted to see everything work before I bought it (even though I know I'm gonna buy it...)
Could that be the problem? that it doesn't work in DEMO version?

Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Robert;
I'm having the same problem with the Kiwi filters on my work computer. Like you, I have done all the things that have been suggested here, and the filters simply do not show up. I'll try it later at home and let you know if I figure anything out that might help you.

Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Hummm... The filters I downloaded were freeware. Maybe we are looking at different things. Rich
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Hi,
I just downloaded the Kiwi plugin, and I installed it in own directory, I currently use CorelPhoto paint version 12 and it doesn't recognize the plugin either. I don't know if it will work with XaraXtreme or I'm missing something also.

Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
So I just tried the Kiwi filters (which are indeed freeware) on my computer at home, and they are working like a charm in Xtreme.
Go figure!

Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
okay, here's the update...still not working...
I just purchased Xtreme and installed it on my home computer.
I downloaded Kiwi plug-in (which is freeware) along with another freeware plug-in
I installed them (unzipped) into a folder called
my documents/plugins/kiwi
my documents/plugins/ripleyer
I went into Xtreme, clicked the plug-in icon, clicked the setup button and then added these two folders...
- they don't show up
- restarted Xtreme, still don't show up
- restarted computer, still don't show up
I'm lost...
Robert
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Didn't see ripleyer in Xtreme, but I did see it in X1. Rich
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
I placed a copy of plugin.dll in the Xtreme application folder, and the ripleyer plugin worked. Not sure of the effect on the application. Rich
Re: DUH? How do I get installed plug-ins to work
Maybe these Plugins use something from IA or PS. When something works, we need to know if there is something else that might be missing. So toss in the post what plugin using programs (ia, ps, etc) you might have.
That way we can help find why dey workee on some 'puters and not udders... :D
