Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
Not wanting to start a flame war or something, but I was intrigued by the image seen in this thread where some Adobe Illustrator tutorials were presented.
As Xara Designer doesn't have a roughen filter I had to come up with something different. I could've used a bitmap texture but that would've been "cheating".
Instead I used fractal fills and repeating transparencies. The threads and button could use some tweaking, but it was the denim that interested me.

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
Fantastic Paul!
Please provide some details about those Fractal Fills and Repeating Transparencies.

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
That is really good work, so are you going to tell us about the fractal fills and repeating transparencies? :D

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
That is a cracker Paul! I tried in D/Pro 6 but the denim wasn't as crisp & when I compared the 2 drawings alongside I was so disappointed with my Xara effort I discarded it after over 1 hours work. Used bitmap fill (denim) and then tried to roughen the texture like you with fractal fills. The puckering did work using a brush and the stitching again was a brush. Still don't like Xara brushes compared to Illustrator's. Took your bitmap from the forum and put then together with my .png file and both looked fairly similar yours slightly lighter blue. Again well done and I don't think the thread will end up Xara v Illy as they are two different programmes which do similar things all with pluses & minuses.

Hello gnurf,
I like this image very much.
In fact it started a fire in me to try to make it in XDP7
Hope you're not offended by me putting my picture in your thread.
So here's mine, not as detailed as yours, but I hope you like it

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
Don't mind at all! I think you got a very nice soft denim design here. If the round part is meant to be a flap then it OK, but if it is a pocket then I think your shadow is a bit off. I especially like the button, and the small tag gives that small extra touch.

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
OK, here comes a minitutorial on how to create your own Xara Denim in ten easy steps. But before you start, a word of warning: Save often! There's a bug in latest Xara Designer that makes Fractal plasma fill crash Xara totally. When you resize and play around with Fractal plasma, make sure you drag the handles (if you miss a handle when for example rotating, you'll crash XD). Or use Fractal clouds instead, which works fine.

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
Hi Gnurf, Im unable to cause the crash to occur when playing around with the fractal Plasma. Do you have a xar file saved where we could simply alter the rotation of the fractal Plasma in order to cause the crash to occur? Also does it only occur at a particular zoom value?
Thanks

Thanks for that mini-tutorial Paul.

The crash always occur when I resize the fractal plasma while NOT dragging the handles, no matter what file or zoom value. I have not had the time to test it on Win 7, only Win Vista 64-bit. See my video screen grab here where I compare the OK fractal clouds vs. the crashing fractal plasma: http://www.screenr.com/Df3s

I hope you don't mind me dropping in but I have a similar problem. When zooming to 200 or over looking at the shape I'm working on, which has a fractal plasma fill and a transparency, they both get dis-placed so I have to zoom out to either drag the shape slightly or click undo and they both jump back in place so I end up trying to work on the shape at 75 or 100% zoom and when I do this I get the error as occured message. I do have the file I was working on so please see if it happens for you. My product is G.D. 7.1.2.1.8680 CD Oct7 2011.

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
stygg2003, sometimes when I zoom in at 500% I see what appears to be tape strips holding the box together when I move it then it goes away. is this what you are referring to.
lets start a new thread so we don't hijack this one or you can pm me.

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
Larry I've started a new thread so as not to hijack this one, and uploaded three images. The new thread is "Fractal Problem".

Re: Jeans as seen in AI tutorial
I saw that link and thought, year, piece of cake in Xara. Mr. Gnuff proved the point.
My only comment is the threads look too perfect (the did in the Illustrator version as well) and in fact they would not be quite so perfect.
Well done Paul.
