XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
Hi everyone,
In order to broaden the template choice, I purchased the Template Pack Bundle.
How can I make use of this bundle with either Web Designer or Xtreme Pro 5? As far as I found out you'd need to use Webstyle 4, which I've never used and seems the predecessor of Web Designer, is this correct?
Also:
Could someone enlighten me on the file locations of the templates and the artwork?
Did some checking and searching, I find several locations:
C:\Documents and Settings\erwin\Application Data\Xara\Webstyle 4\Splash
C:\Documents and Settings\erwin\Local Settings\Application Data\Xara\WebDesigner\5.0
C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Web Designer\Templates\ENG
C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Web Designer\Clipart
Approximately the same goes for Xtreme Pro 5.
I would like to be able to keep copies of clipart and templates and in a later stage point these to a network share.
Thank you for your kind help.
Erwin

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
Im confuesd..........
What exactly have you purchased? If its webstyle 4 templates they are useless with both WD and xtreme.
WD comes with it sown template set look in the help menue and you will find a link saying download templates or similar simply download and install them.
For xtreme from what I understand the templates are supplied on the cd that will be shipped to you.
Webstyle templates cant (to my knowledge) be used with either of these apps, in fact you cant even use the WD templates with xtreme 5 even though WD is basically part of xtreme5.
Strange but true

Not at all. All WD files (including templates) are supposed to work well in Xtreme5.

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
One point, the Web Designer templates can be used with Xtreme 5.1 the .web and .xar file formats are identical internally.
The Webstyle templates are not designed to be used with Web Designer or Xtreme. They cannot be used in Menu Maker which is much closer to Webstyle in functional design.
If memory serves the Template Packs can only be installed from within Webstyle 4.

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
John is it possible for people to purchase Webstyle 4?
I thought the program had been retired.

Correct. It is retired and is no more available for purchase from Xara. But I don't know about distributors.

:D Why? All WD templates are WEB files. Open them in X5, that's it. And you can add directory with them to you designs gallery in X5.

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
Ah....
It seems once more I've thrown some money over for nothing...
And I guess a refund won't be possible...
I've never used Webstyle, downloaded version 4.01 from the web somwhere.
When choosing a template, there are lots of $-signs, clicking on them brings up the possibility to purchase at !!! $85 !!!
I must say I feel very unatease with Xara's marketing strategy... :-(
Just fairly recently purchased Xara3D5 and the upgrade to X3D6, then Xtreme, then Xtreme upgrade to Xtreme Pro, then Web Designer, and THEN again upgrade to Xtreme Pro 5...
Finally Xtreme Pro 5 seems to do all that Web Designer can do and more, and also X3D6 is now included....
It doesn't seem very fair, these purchases were all in the last year...
Feels like a rip off.
Nevertheless for me the value is most of all here in the very helpfull forum!!
Recently posted a question to Xara sales and never even got an answer!!
Not good Xara...
But it's a magnificent program!
Will try to what "Can I insert a NavBar from Menu Maker or Webstyle in Web Designer?" brings, but I fear I'm crippled using the Webstyle templates as I only have a 15 day trial Webstyle...

But you can try. After all you have purchased those templates in mistake. If you explain that you don't even have a Webstyle, then I think there is a chance to get refund. Just try it.

Not quite purchases, rather upgrades. And if you count, the sum is not far off the price of the latest product. But upgrading you've got the functionality you want earlier.

Sorry about that. Soon after every new release, our suppurt is heavily loaded and such delays are unfortunately possible. We do work to improve the responsibility of support department but you can never predict it all.
We do really trying to do our best. :o
For example, I'm active on this forum most of the time. Perhaps this can somewhat compensate your inconvenience with our support? ;)
[edit] Where did you get the link to purchase Webstyle? As I say, we are not supposed to sell it anymore, and the price of $79 is not relevant any more since WD release.

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
John, thanks for posting.
As I'm fairly 'green' to the whole Xara generation I was not aware you were with Xara. Nevertheless, as stated earlier, the greater advantage to Xara is the extremely warm, helpfull and very responsive Talkgraphics forum. So that includes you as well :-)
Allthough it seems very odd that you can still purchase the Webstyle templates, AND that Web Designer is nominated as the next generation Webstyle program, BUT seems quite incompatible with Webstyle's templates...
Might perhaps be an idea to expand the FAQ with an item addressing the issue of clipart and template location AND inter-compatibility.
Never mind, thanks for your input!

Not at all. We still support our users that had purchased Webstyle earlier. Some of them may decide to purchase templates now and we are not going to prohibit it.

Well, it is not stated to be next generation of Webstyle, rather it is a replacement of Webstyle. These two programs have nothing in common, except for their target market - website creation. Web Designer is much more powerfull and flexible solution than template based Webstyle so there's no need to continue Webstyle development any more.

LMFAO I didn't realise you were part of the Xara family either and it does clearly say under you forum name "developer" doh double doh!!!!
ANyhow so what do I do then? Import them in or something or just navigate to the folder where they live? (wehre is that anyhow?)
Is there any way to import it all into the design gallery like it is in WD?
Thanks in advance Sir John much appreciated :)

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
ChrisBro,
In XXP5 when you have the Designs gallery open,
click "Disc Designs..." browse to where your WD clipart folder lives, in my case:
C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Web Designer\Clipart
Enter one of the subdirs, you'll also see a folder named XaraInfo, I guess this contains an index file. In this position, press "Add".
Your newly entered subdir will appear in XXP5 as a new design gallery.
I haven't found yet how to get rid of the preliminary path.
Perhaps someone can help us out here?
You'll have to do this for each subdir... but it works :-)

Look at Post #7 on this thread

to find out how to take out the path name from the gallery.

Re: XWD - How to use Webstyle templates?
I have used WebStyle in the past....Especially to easily create Cascading Nav Bars. The program was brilliant at creating Nav Bars.
I read a post some time ago asking if you could use the WebStyle menu bars here in Web Designer...and the answer was...yes...maybe...but a bit complicated. I seemed fairly complicated and convoluted... So I backed away from using them.
So question again...is it possible to do anything between WebStyle and Web Designer placeholder box for a nav menu that doesnt involve rocket science or script manipulation kinds of work arounds? Is the complication in moving the Webstyle file folder to the root directory and changing some java code possibly?
I Wish Web Designer had a Cascading Nav Bar creation capability that was as easy to use as WebStyle menu creation was!

EXACTLY Ebay's feedback system unless you have thousands of feedback is plain pants, like you say only 1 neg yet it brings the average down to 94 odd %
Its about time Ebay had a decent competitor in the UK with a big Marketing budget, if a new site coulkd attract buyers I really dont think it would take much to blow Ebay away from the UK for good!!
Anyway a whole other topic that I could waffle on about forever so I will shut up now lo :D
