Stats for new website from statcounter - how do i insert html code in correct place?
Was thinking of using statcounter - which looks quite good according to reviews - but I don't do html - so
their instruction is
"6.It's very important to install StatCounter in the correct place on your website i.e. just inside the closing "body" tag - </body> - as indicated below. Simply copy and paste your StatCounter code into this position on each page of your website. Don't forget to save your changes. "
How do i get to paste the code where its needed plse. It will be hidden - I hope - so no probs about format etc
FYI code is
<!-- Start of StatCounter Code for Default Guide -->
<script type="text/javascript">
var sc_project=7788527;
var sc_invisible=0;
var sc_security="af8d3d36";
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter.js"></script>
<noscript><div class="statcounter"><a title="tumblr tracker"
href="http://statcounter.com/tumblr/" target="_blank"><img
class="statcounter"
src="http://c.statcounter.com/7788527/0/af8d3d36/0/"
alt="tumblr tracker"></a></div></noscript>
<!-- End of StatCounter Code for Default Guide -->
Thanks again for your help

Like so.
The site counter is not invisible and shows top left of the screen.

best way is to make small rectangle - right click on it - web properties - placeholder - then click the box that says "HTML code (body) then paste the code in there - then click ok --- click apply -
then you can move the rectangle where you want the counter to appear :-)
Re: Stats for new website from statcounter - how do i insert html code in correct pla
Thanks for that - but i'd prefer it to be invisible - is that possible??

Change the above red line to;
var sc_invisible=1;

Wow that's quick - thank you. Statcounter were insistant that the code went after the 'body tag' - will this solution comply with that??
Re: Stats for new website from statcounter - how do i insert html code in correct pla
Yes, I think it will.
However, if the stat counter is invisible, how will you know how many hits you have gotten.
I think Google Analytics is a much better solution and gives you a lot more information.

Google Analytics sounds a lot more complex - too much for me - you'll have gathered i'm not into the joys of web design - just want to get the darned thing done. Statcounter sends you a good digest of info every week - will give usual things like users numbers, plus web page views and also such things as search terms used to find site, location of viewers, etc - sounds like enough for me - looked at the google stuff and took fright!! What a wimp

What I suggest doesn't change the position in the HTML, only the visibility.
@Gary: You don't need the counter visible on the page to a) Get the reports auto emailed from Statcounter or b) Log onto your SC account and view them

Just had a look at stat counter after seeing this thread, installed on site and all working thanks to you guys. again i found google analytics very complex to understand due to my lack of website coding knowledge, but stat counter seems alot easier to understand.
