Yeah, the 'thrill' of digging out all my program disk to re-install them... <sigh>

I would always do a clean install where possible
Likelyhood some things will not work with the new operating system - I would rather then, that they had not been in the installation in the first place....
That's a loaded question. I think Vista is a huge step up from XP. Win7 doesn't seem like the same leap ahead, more of a consolidation of all the good stuff introduced in Vista. If you find Vista unfriendly, you probably won't like Win7 either, as it is very similar overall. I think it is amazingly good, to the point that I just bought a new laptop, a Dell M4400, and I will be using Win7 with it, assuming I can get all my applications to install and run. So far Xara is the only one that has given me any grief but I just found out how to sort that out. I still haven't tried Combustion, 3DS Max, Maya or Toxik yet though, and Autodesk stuff has a habit of being very finicky about OSs.
I agree Bones.
Windows XP is version 5 and Vista is version 6. Guess what version Windows 7 shows in System Information.
Nope it is not version 7.
It is version 6.1...only a minor update to Vista.
That's fairly typical of beta versions, though. I wouldn't read too much into it.
I've now got Maya and Toxik running on Win7 and I am more and more impressed with it, although sadly I will have to revert to using a Win98 graphical look as a problem left-over from Vista does not seem to be fixed. It doesn't pass window themes to child windows and I use a couple of audio applications that have lots of little windows open in them and it's just unworkable for me. It's a shame because both Vista and Win7 look awesome and I love the Aero stuff.
As a test, I installed the old trial version of Illustrator 8.
Windows 7 asked a couple questions, and then it installed
and ran perfectly. It looks like MS may have got it right
this time.
I was running Windows 7 build 7000, and it has a few bugs yet,, but updated to build 7048 RC1. It is a bit more stable, but I noticed Xara Etreme 4 will not run now. It ran fine in Build 7000. Its a bit frustrating to say the least. as I use it all the time. When I try to start it I get a message the it stopped running and needs to close. it never comes up at all. Anyone else run in to this?
Michael
Anyone installing W7 RC 64bit finding that Google Chrome doesn't work can fix it like this:
Run Google Chrome on Windows 7 64 bit Version
1. Right Click on Google Chrome Icon
2. Add –in-process-plugins after chrome.exe in Target field.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7100 ... and cannot get Xtreme to run either. Has anyone contacted Xara?
-Ed.
Hi Ed,
Which version of Xtreme?
Xtreme 4.0 can be installed and run well on Windows 7 using Vista compatibility.
