Re: Xara Web Designer 6
I have read in one of John's posts somewhere that a fix has been done so you can now place "multiple" head tags, dont know though if it is multiple head tags in the one placeholder or multiple placeholder with a head tag in each.
Sure someone will confirm ;)

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
You can place multiple items in the one <head> placeholder.
You don't add any head tags yourself, WD does this becuase the named placeholder tells the filter to place the code in the head section..

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
I was talking abot a bug in WD/X5 which did not allow placing multiple head placeholder objects on one page. If you try to do thin in X5 you'll end up with some garbage in the resulting HTML. This is fixed in WD6. So if you place multiple placeholder objects which all have the "<head>" name on the same page or on the pasteboard beside it, the content of all these will be concatenated and correctly inserted into the head section of the exported page.
This may be useful if you have some code common for all pages so that you can use repeating object and add some page specific code in the separate head placeholder. Besides, using multiple placeholders may help to organize your snippets better.

Thanks for clarifying, chaps:)

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
Can anyone clarify if a website (web file) already produced in v5 can be opened in XWD6 amended using 6 then exported and published. I asume that it would need the old site removed from the server because it could only over write V6 but can my V5 files be updated using 6. Sorry if this is a naive question

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
Mostly - yes. Though if you have made use of some (or many) of the WD5 tweaks, you may have to remove them.

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
The biggest issue I've run across making this conversion (from XXP5 to XWD6) is with the graphics. For example, one site has a lot of Live Effects graphics in it, none of which seem to work properly in XWD6. The solution as I see it is to export those graphic as JPG or PNG (or use the versions it exported for the web site) and re-import them into XWD6 and replace. If there's a better way I'm all ears (or is it eyes?).

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
LE's are not supported in WD, so .xar files created in Xtreme using them have never been cross-compatible with WD. Nothing has changed here.

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
Knew that. Since the topic of converting came up just figured I'd toss in another thing to consider. ;)
EDITED TO ADD: By the way, I'm not complaining. The transition is worth it, just have to be heads-up about the issues.

Re: Xara Web Designer 6
Mentorman was asking about opening Web Designer 5 files into Web Designer 6, not Xtreme files.
