Re: Xara Xtreme Book
I received my book in the mail today, Nov. 17, 2009. What would have taken UPS two or three days to deliver took the USPS 6 days. Live and learn. Their tracking service also leaves a lot to be desired (see attachment). It's just something for everyone else to consider when choosing a shipping option when ordering their copy of XX5: The Official Guide. But, hey, I guess I shouldn't complain because I was the one that chose the free shipping option.
The book, on the other hand, looks even better in print than the teaser chapters found on the internet. After a cursory thumb through the book, I'm impressed. I'll be reading through it over the next few days and going through the tutorials as time permits. Beside being a handy reference, I figure that if I learn at least one new Xtreme trick, technique, or tip the cost of the book will have been money well spent. Thanks, Gare!
Just what I need, a good read,
Harry

Re: Xara Xtreme Book
You're being xtremely gracious, HayTay: I think we both hope that you find more than one tutorial of use in the book. :)
My Best,
Gare
P.S. If anyone reading the book grows tired of running the tutorials, look for the "Easter eggs" in the figures. Page 203: which typeface on the Fonts list isn't a typeface, but instead a famous programmer? Very first page, listing the copyrights: which trademarked items are nowhere to be found in the book?
There are also several hard-to-make-out photos of Charles Moir in front of Gaddesden Place in the figures.
Well, at least I found it amusing while working :)

Re: Xara Xtreme Book
Received my copy of the book about an hour ago. I've been thumbing through the pages.
Very impressive work.
Now to begin reading in earnest.
BTW I found Charles' image on pages xxx and xxx. ;)

Oh, don't mention the page, Soquili!
Just wave your hand and shout, "Oooh, oooh! I know the answer!"
Let other people find 'em on their own!

Re: Xara Xtreme Book
I received my copy of book from Amazon 2 days ago and I only can say to all of you: buy the book.
It’s very well written and structured and follows my natural and personal opinion of integration that a discipline as visual arts should embrace with the 3D perspective as well as the 2D perspective in mind. Gary made a wonderful book and my compliments are extended to everybody who collaborated or inspired the book and wich he mentioned in the first pages of the book with a special reference to Gary Priester for the wonderful and never ending job he has been doing whit the tutorials and assistance to newcomers to the Xara world.
The book is for sure a fundamental reference for starters and a very useful source of inspiration for all. For the illustrator apprentice I can only say I wish I had such a book when I started my exploration of the digital art.
Buy it. It’s a valuable investment you will never regret. There’s no investment like the investment in your education. And this one is a very sweet one.
Thanks Gary. A much matured book. Wonderful structure and sequence. Worth every penny.

Re: Xara Xtreme Book
Just been informed by Amazon that they're put back delivery estimate to December 17th due to supply problems :'( ... is it selling that quick?!

Re: Xara Xtreme Book
Yep, Bol.com just e-mailed me, that delivery will take longer then
the 5-7 days they mentioned. So it must be selling pretty well I guess.
