Ah ok thanks but I'm not really up for charity, though if I really think of this it would be nice :D
I dont like getting things for free, I like to earn my way in.
Edit:Oh remi, I was not given such promotion yet :)Quote:
Availor, I've heard rumours, Administrators of this forum will get a free copy of a Xtreme Pro upgrade, especially if they are students. ;)
I have just tried to run the beta on a "restricted" XP account i.e don't have full admin. The programme won't run - I get a dialog box with the following text
"You do not have sufficient access rights to run the programme on this computer".
If the ultimate intention for Xtreme Pro is the professional or corporate market then this needs to be fixed!
Surprisingly XPE Pro will run ok.
Yes we are aware of this, but present versions require Admin rights (because of things like download movies and plug-ins that are put into the Xara Program Files folder - amongst other reasons).
We will address this before the final release - and similar issues for Windows Vista as well (the current version runs fine on Vista but you have to provide more than normal access right again).
In beta if you close all documents and try to close the program by clicking on the above right cross icon, you can't because it disappears when you move your mouse over it. Then you must go by File/Exit.
Kindly,

Problem with PDF-X export. This is using an embedded font, notice the alignment of the bottom of the first paragraph of text versus the blue area at the top. Seems to me that Acrobat Reader has increased the leading. Okay so it's an old, old Adobe bug, which long ago started me sending files to the bureau as hires TIFF, but is there no way to trick Acrobat into rendering correctly?
Hi Guys,
When I try to copy and paste a MS Visio drawing Xara Xtreme Pro gives the fllowing message: An error was detected in the metafile. the import was being aborted. Also the import for bitmap or device independent bitmap doesn't work.
I'll atach the file Visio file for testing purposes.
You know that feeling you get deep inside when you leave the supermarket and your car isn't there?
Or when you slip your hand into your pocket for your wallet and your pocket is empty?
Or when you walk up a flight of stairs and when you step on the last one there isn't one?
That's something like I felt today when Xtreme Pro crashed on me while working on something which has already had many hours of work.
4,812 objects over eight layers.
A lot of plasma fractal fills, a few linear fills but no transparencies, blends, contours or other embellishments.
I had just saved the file along with a copy.
Upon closing Xtreme Pro I got an error message - something about serious error and has to close. I didn't have the presence of mind to take a screendump - sorry about that.
So, the prog closed, I clicked on first one, then the other of the two files' icons and Xara came up with a blank screen on both occasions.
So I opened closed Xara Pro and opened it again and neither of the two files were in the file list.
That's the story of the malfunction and me feeling sick as a parrot.
The good news is that when I selected "Open File" both saved files opened okay with their integrity preserved.
No harm done but I don't want to feel like that again.
Grrrr.
Edit: Both files are saved to the desktop.
Both can be opened when I choose File/Open ... but when I click on the desktop icons I get this error message:
Intbel, for goodness sake, make spare copies as you go along. Save As is your friend:
Save As "Genius_Artwork_001"
Save As "Genius_Artwork_002"..
(BTW I've done exactly the same..)
I do I do..
I tried something and it worked.
I think Xara misreads the file (name)
Saving as
file.xar
and filecopy.xar it seems to not recognise the difference.
Changing the name to copyoffile.xar it recognises a different file.
I have checked and double-checked this, however, it only seems to do this with heavy files.
Only seems to read the first few letters of the file name.
Not saying that is what it does, just that is what it seems to do.
Normally, CTRL+L toggles the ruler. However, when editing the new advance text it highlights a line of text.
I don't think I ever seen a short-cut in Xara ever have two different functions.
Ctrl+W toggles the case of the character to the right of the cursor.
Any chance of allowing Ctrl+W to do the same for a selection of characters?
Sorry for my previous message in this thread ! The défault Xtreme window was only too high for my screen (I don't know why) and the above bar wasn't visible. Solved now !
kindly,
ivan
In regards to Xara Xtreme Pro, so far, it is very stable, I've been learning how the Flash export works and tweening. One thing that could infinitely be better is the entries in the help file are not all that specific and if it weren't for the examples which come with the clipart gallery for flash aninmation examples (which are shown on the Xara website) I would not have been able to figure out rotation in animating the watch I just posted to the animation forum. The syntax is just simply wrong in the help file but it was right on the Xara files thank goodness. Raymond told me about the clipart gallery flash file examples and that helped infinitely. But the help file should be correct.
Where it is not right is regarding rotation, if you want to rotate the hands of a watch, it goes as such in the name gallery "rotate+hourhand". Once that is done, you can set the rotation axis on the hand itself. The "+" in the name tells the rotation to proceed clockwise, whereas a "-" would be counterclockwise. Then you just copy the frame and advance the various hands about a central axis -30 degrees (hour hand), -60 degrees (minute hand) and -120 degrees second hand and from the original frame for the background, then the one with the named hands, there are 12 frames in all. However the process would have taken far less time if the helpfile was correct.
The 'Cancel' button is the default option for the PDF export window.
Habits formed from the GIF/JPG/PNG export of typing a filename and hitting Enter twice cancels a PDF export rather than actually exporting - can this be fixed please?
Part of the learning curve, isn't it? And when we get a real handle on all it can do is when the fun will really start, right? From now on, look first at the example and figure it out and read the help file for .... for..... for..... I forget, why I want to read that anyway, wasn't fascinating prose by any means. Sorry to hear about your harrowing experience with file that woudn't open, guess it is alright now.
I am having regular crashes...closing because of a serious error..etc. when working with photographs and it seems to be XPE, particularly when workng with plugins; which of course might be the fault of the plug ins.
Is anyone else experiencing any problems or is it just me?
Derek
CMYK preview gets corrupted when Cache groups and layers is turned on.
This bug was originally in Xtreme and it seemed to have been fixed. Sadly not.

I'm working producing some images made by photo collage. I have just had a crash when working on a previously saved image, altering grain on one of the photographs in XPE. When the programme crashed and I tried to reopen the previously saved file I was told the file was empty; the crash seemed to take all the previous work, (photographs), which were altered in XPE or Xtreme Pro with it.
This has happened a few times to me now.

As I said I was producing a collage image from photographs using XPE to adjust the levels of about four images. Each image was placed on a new layer in Xtreme; transparency applied to blend them together. I used Mehdi plugin to apply natural grain to each of the images for consistency and certain areas of the individual photographs were croped using using xtreme to slice rather than XPE to crop. (though I'd also been cropping in XPE)
On a number of occasions now I've had the program shut down due to serious error whilst doing this or similar.
Working with vector images of a larger file size, using the likes of Mehdi for natural grain etc, has produced no problems what so ever so its not the computer running out of steam..(2gig ram, AMD Athlon dual core), it 'seems' to be (processed) photographs its less happy with.
I repeated the operation with the photographs using Xtreme-not-pro, all except the level adjustment without any bother.
It also has to be said I repeated the operation with Pro for one collage and it went fine, which is why I was wondering if anyone else had had any problems rather than assuming it was a buggy problem common to all.
Irritating but not life threatening.

Text on hidden layers can still be accidentally edited. I originally posted about this in August about Xtreme but the problem is still present in Xtreme Pro. Original thread is at http://talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=22860
As Stratocast posted at the time, the workaround is to use the "Current layer always visible and editable" option (and untick the Editable box for all layers) but this is defaulted to being turned off so the bug will affect new users unless they turn that option on.
Egg said "I would only say that this is an eccentricity to be aware of", but I'd still call it a bug because it's not the expected behaviour and is not consistent (doesn't happen with anything other than text)

On different occasions both but internal when problems occured as far as I can recollect.

Thanks for the effort. As I said it might not be a bug but something peculiar to me, so unless someone else has a problem I wouldn't spend too much time with it. The specific combination of filters, transparency with a little overdrawing with various effects applied might have just upset my PC alone for whatever reason.
I've finished what I was doing so the combination of actions might not arise again in the foreseeable future

PDF export issue - not sure if this is a bug or a feature of pdf/x. I was doing sketches for a festival newsletter and ran into this weirdness, but I must also say that I enjoy the new text tool a lot.
Anyway exporting to pdf from Xara breaks my layout, maybe there's a problem in my original so I attach the .xar as well, and an Acrobat Elements pdf print.
Thanks for looking into it.
Jon
Jon...
Very nice, clean-looking page. (Needless to say, I can't read it...:o )
But when I load it into Xtreme Pro, the layout is messed up in the XAR file. There are a few places where it looks like some captions are overlaid by pictures, and the writing at the very bottom is off the page.
I double-checked, and my page was set for A4 size. Is this correct for your document?

Jon,
The problem is that the leading is increased in the PDF. I asked about this earlier in the thread and a Xara developer replied:
So it will be fixed, soon I hope!Quote:
This bug has been fixed for the release. It was introduced when text areas were made compatible with previous versions of the program (they load in as old style text columns).
John
Thanks Will & John,
good to know it's fixed!
Back to work, then.
Minor thing but I think the terminology used when describing the three types of text objects should be consistent between the Help Files and the "hints" shown in Xara's taskbar (found at the bottom of the drawing area). It might alleviate some confusion.
The 3rd type of text now available in XPRO is called Frame text in the Help file. However, in the taskbar when frame text is selected, it is referred to as "area". See the attached.
I have had this error three times so far.
Each time I was performing the same action:
Making a simple four-frame animation, the error occurred when I attempted to change the fps value of frame four from 0.5 to zero.
