Re: Is slow loading of Designer Pro 11 Normal
Interesting to measure Designer Pro X11 took 40 seconds on my computer (Win 7 64bit, 2.10 Ghz, 6Gb RAM) to start.
Maybe that looks long in numbers, but the feeling was that quite fast :D Compare to the fact that who knows why but Excel and Word sometimes look ages to load in, so they are neither better
Re: Is slow loading of Designer Pro 11 Normal
It took 10 seconds on my computer, but it might have been in cache.
This is from double-clicking the icon to the workspace, ready to draw, with about 10 of my last-used pages to load, too.
In comparison, Photoshop took 5 seconds to load, from double-click to workspace.
I've got a Sandy Bridge processor and board, 32GB RAM, nVidia gaming card with graphics accelerator, using Win 7 64×, and that neat coffee cup holder just above the on/off switch in the front of the computer. It retracts sometimes when it wants to, spilling Folger's Dark Roast 32 oz. can, served at 140° F.
(Sorry! It's Friday; lighten up!)

Well, in view of that, I see I'm using a computer that's piece of doodoo.
Thanks Gary!

Some people choose to buy new cars with their "discretionary income."
Other, usually unbalance people, buy computers.
and I can prove I'm unbalanced, Ron.
Just take away my cane.

At least you're not unbalanced AND stupid AND incompetent.
Somehow I get by.

You're a Triple Threat, Ron.
And full of it, too! :)
TGIF, man.

I don't buy that Ron. From what I've seen you are not stupid or incompetent. The unbalanced part I do not understand so cannot say. As for myself, like Gare I use a cane too. Not that I cannot get around without it, it's just better because my balance is horrible so it's better for me to use one.
Seems like this thread has gotten off topic so back on topic.
Re: Is slow loading of Designer Pro 11 Normal
Larry, Ron is making fun of himself at his own expense. Ron, it's going to get so expensive sooner or later, you'll go bankrupt.
Me, I'm already morally bankrupt.

Back on topic: has anyone experience a speed-up loading the second or third time you launch XDP 11? I think my time trial of 10 seconds was the 2nd or 3rd time I ran Xara.
Just food for thought, even though it looks like an hors d'oeuvre,
Gary

aren't we all a little unstable, Gare, one way or another? makes us individually interesting. i tend to be unstable logically (amount of fun vs. consequences) as all my aches and pains and issues from a messed up spine can tell you :D :D

with Phil stating that there is a little bit more "bloat" on startup (brushes and whatever else) coupled with the cache size and how a computer uses it is where i'm guessing the difference lies.
on a cold startup, xara opens 5 preloaded xar files (3 being web design) in about 21 seconds for me.
after closing dp11, every subsequent restart of xara consistently takes my laptop (relatively new Alienware/gaming specs tho i don't game ever) from 10.5 to 12 seconds as timed with a stopwatch app. if i'm connected to the internet, about 1 to 2 seconds longer.
.......as my kids would sing......it's all about that cache, 'bout that cache......
(and nothing wrong with a little ot if it doesn't derail the thread. happy forum, healthy forum)
