Re: [New] XaReg 2.4 released
Frank, Frank, Frank.
Bill Taylor (soquilly) and sledger created XaReg many years back to let users tweak the registry settings without having to mess about with the registry itself.
Sadly, Bill Taylor died a few years ago and there was some concern as to whether or not XaReg would continue.
Grace in the meantime started developing her own registry tweaking utility. Some of the TG members got behind this and started a contest to design a logo, etc.
But sleger and Covoxer have also continued to move XaReg forward to support the latest Xara products.
Re: [New] XaReg 2.4 released
Bill died less than a year ago Gary, December 2012.
Re: [New] XaReg 2.4 released
thanks gary
wasn't aware of the two apps
i guess they will both do roughly the same things?
Re: [New] XaReg 2.4 released
Bill passed away 7 months ago.
The original XaReg was the result of the efforts of mostly Bill. Covoxer helped with some technical advices and my part was mostly with the UI and testing. XaReg1 was inspired by the XsetupX utility created by Covoxer a number a years before that.
Bill was working on a XaReg2 before his death on 10th December 2012.
Without the availability Bill's original source code, Covoxer and I reworked XaReg into the XsetupX UI and enhanced it's features to release it as our tribute to Bill Taylor.
As has been said, XaReg is just a tool to switch some registry settings which are already present in the Xara registry tree for those folks who are not comfortable to do it manually via Regedit.
XaReg2 does not delete keys or add any new ones and neither does it make changes to the version selected (or any other version installed which is shown in the program dropdown list) until the user does so.. Changes are applied instantly, the presence of the 'Run Selected Program' button is to make certain that you are launching the version you just made changes to rather than confusing it with another icon on your desktop or pinned to your task bar.
Any version of Xara Designer family which is open before you run XaReg is protected from registry changes as XaReg will remove all options from it's UI until the Xara application is closed.

Re: [New] XaReg 2.4 released
Just to clarify, I suggested an open source version of XaReg at a time when we did not know that a new version was forthcoming. We decided to continue because the XART version will be open source. If anyone on the project leaves or dies the source is still available for others to continue.

What is the difference between XaReg and XART?
Re: [New] XaReg 2.4 released
XaReg2 can be downloaded and used (see first post of this thread for the download link) and Xart is currently being developed. Both are supposed to have the same functions.
