RPC994 you will need to ask Rik how he created the logo. I liked his design and he granted permission for me to use it.
As to how I would make the logo, the background would be a simple ellipse and the bat would be made using the Shape Editor. Very first object I made with the public beta of Xara X back in 2000 was a bat symbol, took me about 2 minutes and I have been hooked on the program ever since.
Originally back in 2000 I drew the entire bat with straight line segments then used the Shape Editor to make curves where needed.
In the attached files I only drew one half of the symbol then cloned the line, flipped horizontally with the center of rotation set to the center of the open edge. Used Shape Editor to join the two lines to make the closed shape.
