Re: Problems Uploading new website using Mechanic Web Server
some basic instructions: https://www.technorms.com/25742/extr...ive-files-7zip - the program installation and zipping is covered here amongst other things
'zipping' files is technically called 'archiving' and a zip file an 'archive'
can't help you with unzipping them on your host - that will depend on how it is set up, with winzip presumably
it would surely be a whole load easier to get ftp details from them and do it that way ?
Re: Problems Uploading new website using Mechanic Web Server
Hello KoKo, GW Priester, and Handrawn,
I think you for your very quick responses to my call for help. Actually, My web service provider, "MechanicWeb" got a great review and ratings from users when I subscribed in in 2016. I had transferred from another hosting company because my email continued to be blacklisted so that I had to keep calling to have that lifted.
Now, here is what my present hosting service tells me, "You can upload all the files using XARA. You will need to put the files in the [public_html/newpathwaysconsultants] folder. That means the folder [newpathwaysconsultants] resides inside [public_html] folder. Take note that the domain "newpathwaysconsultants.com is an addon domain. You can also upload a compressed zip archive of the files using the file manager and uncompress it. Use the FTP login details". Here is my question all, can I also use FileZilla to upload the files into [public_html/newpathwaysconsultants] folder to my hosting service? If it's possible to do this, how is it done? I do have FileZilla on my computer but never used it. Thanks again all. In the mean time, I will see what I can do to figure this out myself. Thanks again all.
Bob
Re: Problems Uploading new website using Mechanic Web Server
if you have ftp login details you can use filezilla - in your OP you refered to cPanel but FTP is how most would do it, either xara's own or a third party like filezilla eg: https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/F..._Tutorial_(en)

Yes. You can use Filezilla. But once you have set up the FTP in Xara it is just faster and more convenient to publish from within Xara.
The attached shows where you enter the folder information.

Gary is going to be right on that I would think, provided it works; it is clear from elsewhere in the forum that it does not always do so....
Re: Problems Uploading new website using Mechanic Web Server
Hello all, you all are wonderful and I very much appreciate your suggestions and help. Well, I did really think the link showing the Web Properties/Other Web Host Settings was going to work. When I noted that I had not been putting anything in the "Sub-Folder [optional] space. I tried uploading my new website with this information twice. I did get the first page of my old website with the remaining pages (404). I can't understand why this will not work, is should. By the way, I even tried "restarting my computer" but to no avail. Actually, this should work all. There is something I am not doing even with the great advice you all are giving me. I've got to figure out what it is.

Re: Problems Uploading new website using Mechanic Web Server
If you are able to connect with Filezilla then you should be able to use the same settings to connect with Xara.
I think the sub directory public_html/newpathwaysconsultants assumes there is a folder in public_html newpathwayconsultants. Does this exist?
When you are setting this up in Xara in Other Web Host, once you enter your info there is a button Explore Web Space. If you press this button then you should see the folder you are uploading your files to. What happens when you press this button?
And what happens if you change the path for the sub-folder to public_html/ ?

Try setting up the Xara publish settings this way Robert. Obviously I don't know your username and password. Then click on the Explore Webspace button. What happens?

Hello GW Priester and Egg Bramhill,
You guys are certainly on to something. I did get the website up, but still have to figure out the correct protocol for getting the Coffee Cup Forms working OK. From both of you, I appreciate the thumbnail attachments of the Web Properties and Other Web Host Settings. I had no idea what would happen so I stayed away from the Web Space Button til you all mentioned it. That told me a great deal. I sure do thank you all so much.
