I couldn't open your video. Was I doing something wrong?
Strange, is anybody else having issues with the video link?

I'll learn more doing it myself.
Couldn't agree more nicks, this is the prime function of TG, but if you're truly stuck let us know.
Re: Lines of fixed length
The video worked fine for me Egg.

The video works fine for me too. Perhaps the OP is right-clicking the link and attempting to download something instead of just clicking it and viewing it online?
I'd like to add a few of points about Egg's very neat technique:
1. Try to find the largest distance on the bitmap for which you know a real world size. That way you'll get more accurate results.
2. When "measuring" that distance by drawing the rectangle on top of it make sure the rectangle doesn't have any line width and make sure that the ends fall on the middle of the marks on the bitmap.
3. You don't need to set the units before setting up the scale factor. So long as the left hand side of the scale factor specifies a unit (such as metres in Egg's video) the ruler and all other sizes will automatically use that unit.

Egg - that's solved my dilemma and I've downloaded your video for future use as well.
I was unable to see it with a simple left click but after download it was OK. I can only think of the broadband in this small village
Many thanks
