Cool. I'll be interested to read your perspective. I'm currently waiting impatiently for them to release Bongo 2.0.
I use SU everyday ... Ross McIntosh is a very proficient user of it also (he turned me onto it).
You can save as PDF and bring that into Xara to enhance things if you want. You can also use SU as a standalone merely to visualize the perspective and shadowing and then draw in Xara using the SU model as an example.
You can bring in plan (top) and section (side) views from CAD, either as DXF or DWG or as scan trace on view and the extrude it to the 3rd dimension. U-Tube has some very good demos of this ... just do a search for "SketchUp"
I'll try and find some examples.
This album has a couple examples which use a combination of SU and Xara:

The clarifier was created by tracing scans of a CAD drawing set.
All of these covers were composited with Xara. 3D images were exported as transparent PNGs and then imported into Xara

I'll leave this link with public access for a week or so, then remove it. This is mostly just SU examples. Any compositing has been done with Xara.

The top Florida image was done in SU. The one below it was done by importing a PDF vector and adding enhancements with XARA.

I MIGHT ADD MY ILLUSTRATIVE WORK ALL STARTED WITH A CHANCE MEETING
WITH GARY PRIESTER ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO! It was at graphic conference.
I had just begun to learn drawing with a computer. Shortly thereafter, Gary turned
me onto Xara. I (and my family's well being) owe at lot to Gary.
I was thinking about the images used in Autostereograms specifically.

I think you'll find that that's what stereogram apps create. Or you can import your own I guess. I had a Stereogram creator program once but for the life of me I can't remember what it was but it created pretty competent stereograms, but you can have too much of a good thing and I moved on.

Interesting site.
I'm so relieved that you posted both versions of the images, jclements. I couldn't figure out why you had eggs flying over Florida. :)
For what it's worth, Microsoft now owns Caligary, the maker of Truespace. As of July 2008, version 7.6 is a free download. So, if you never messed with it because it was too expensive, here's your chance.
It's pretty tough to use (at least it was when I played with it around v4). I had a book and did the following image MANY years ago from a tutorial. After that, I lost interest ;)

You can download TrueSpace here: http://cart1.caligari.com/web/Truespacemainreg.aspx
Many thanks for that info. I only have version 5.2 and if I can find some time I'll have a play after having watched the movies etc
I like the space tanker - cool :)
