Alright, the Brits don't know what a swamp cooler is and I don't get the shoe thing.
Brogues and Brogans are terms I haven't heard for almost 50 years. We got one pair of brogans when school started and they had to last until the following summer. Just bare feet until school started again in the fall :)
Ah, the added culture we acquire from sharing local color across the sea!
>sniff< You were lucky. We didn't even get the shoes in the first place.
Didn't even have a shoe box.
If we did have a shoe box we'd have had a place in which to live.
Working 26 hours a day, every day for a penny a week, walking ten miles to work and back - shoes would have been most welcome.
I seem to remember getting a pair of socks once.
Being a sharing family we had one finger-warmer each.
A luxury indeed.
;)
Hmm, being the youngest of 3, I know all about second-hand. I once got a job in a watch factory because of it, you see, I was good at making faces.
I have two older sisters... didn't really get hand-me-downs, fortunately. (and a younger sister)
'Course, didn't get new clothes either.
Wonder where my clothes DID come from......
Soquili's house?
Cousins? You mother remade your father's old clothes? Or you were a nature lover.
