Great job, I tried and gave up on it for a while last night, I'll have to try again!

Although it's nothing close to the original PS one, I looked at a photo of a puddle of gasoline on fire and it had this kind of effect

It seems to me that you try to create your fire with lines/strokes, yes? What if you try to use different sized brushes/strokes, and different shapes as well?
What I miss from your picture is that final "flare". I placed a rectangle on top of my fire , gave it a yellow-orange fill, applied a elliptical bleach 50% transparency. The text will be really lit up after that.

Nice idea, I knew that part was missing, just didn't know how to achieve it. Thanks for the help, how does this look?
Steve Newport
I layed a bleached purple and blue elliptical transparencies over it this time

Why, I’m afraid I can’t explain myself, sir, because I’m not myself, you know...

ever so many thanks, Ross, for your hint about the blends (which I just hardly use on anything---but watch out now!!!!! )...so, I took my other drawing and with the blends---here we have it---

Looks Great!

You got a good effect, but it doesn't quite look like fire. I think a change of color should do the trick. Try doing away with light yellow, it makes it look like it's not bright. Change it to either white or yellow. Also, purple isn't usually seen in flames, so make the colors around the white reds on the outside and oranges & yellows closer to the white
