Re: HayTay's Eclectic Collection of Strange and Unusual Photographs
A photo of a ceramic Japanese Tanuki statue. The statue stands about 36" tall (not including the hat) so you can get a better idea of its height and girth.
This (crummy) pic was snapped with my cell phone camera at the Arigato Japanese Steak & Seafood House in Greensboro, NC. The direct halogen lighting didn't help the picture much either, as you can see. In 'light' of the bad lighting, the restaurant is a favorite of my families and you'll usually find us there on special occasions including birthdays and anniversaries.
If anyone is interested in any tanuki folklore, history, or would like to see what a real tanuki looks like, here are a couple of links:

Very interesting Harry [though I wish I hadn't read about the drumming!] Doesn't say anywhere if they're related to Ewoks ... looks like it ;):D

Death, while not necessarily a humourous subject, can be entertaining occasionally and these 'SLOW Death in Family' signs continue to give me a chuckle every time I see one. My first thought is always, "I wonder why don't they just put the poor soul out of their misery!"
Of course the person is already deceased. These signs are placed out of respect for the living friends and family that are visiting the surviving relatives and may not be paying strict attention to their driving and parking skills. On the other side of the placard is another sign that usually states, 'Thank You - So-and-so's Funeral Home'. There are at least two other versions of the 'SLOW Death in Family' signs whose wording isn't nearly as comical as this one. Of course they're not nearly as memorable as this one, which is why I can't remember the exact wording of the alternate versions.
May you not suffer the same fate,
Harry

:D Haven't got a pic unfortunately, but a street-sign on the way to my Grandad's funeral caused some mirth [he would have been first to point it out!] and has gone down in family folk-lore. The turning also led to a swimming pool so the sign read ...

John, you didn't stop to inquire if there was a permanent 'lifeguard' on duty named Charon, did you? :D

Touché!
Great! Now I can't get Chris De Burgh's Don't Pay the Ferryman song (The Getaway, 1982) to stop looping in my head. Aaaaaaah...
I've got a few more photos to crop and post in this here little thread o' mine. So, here's another one.
Stopping for lunch one day, I stepped out of the van I was driving and walked around the back to make sure the doors were locked. By chance, I happened to look down only to notice a nice looking script, letter 'A' looking back at me. After doing a double-take I saw that it was a discarded pony tail holder that somehow pretzel-ized itself into the nicely flowing letter. Of course I grabbed my camera and captured a quick shot so I could share it with everyone here.
I vow that my quest will continue for the rest of the pony tail alphabet,
Harry

Of course the "A" could also double as a "J"
