Making a ring of single crochets
I want to draw a pattern for a crochet hat. The first thing I need to do is draw a ring of 7 chain stitches. I downloaded a font that makes crochet stitches, the one I would be using for the chain is an oval. I typed in the 7 stitches and adjusted the spacing so that they touched and tried putting the text on a circle. But I couldn't get a contiguous chain. I tried a brush, but that would not fit round the circle. Attached is what I am trying to do. The other stitches should not be a problem as they will be single characters.

Grace can you post the Xar file with your creation - it might explain better what you are trying to do.

Re: Making a ring of single crochets
Grace, is this something like you mean when you say chrochet chain?

I looked at a chrochet font and didn't see anything useful.
I would think that making a custom brush would be your best bet, but, I can see problems there too, maybe even more problems.
Perhaps making a blend of the shape might give you a satisfactory answer, I don't know.
Re: Making a ring of single crochets
I don't have a file. The picture I showed is similar to what I want to do. The starting point is the centre circle, that is 7 chain stitches.

Re: Making a ring of single crochets
Hi Grace, Try this:
type 1 chain stitch from your font right click and drag to create another stitch.
Make a 6 step blend between the two stitches and create a circle and select the circle and the blend and click fit blend to curve, then click rotate along curve.
you may need to adjust the size of your circle down to make the stitches touch. Ctrl + click to select the circle and remove the colour.
Re: Making a ring of single crochets
If you use a brush you will need to adjust the spacing of the brush and/or the line size. Adjusting the size of the circle with scale line width on/off will also effect how many chains form the circle.

Re: Making a ring of single crochets
Thanks Francis, I knew there had to be a way. I will give it a try later today.

Re: Making a ring of single crochets
I've just posted some new stitch type brushes in the brushes forum. They may be of use.

Re: Making a ring of single crochets
Thanks everyone. I have succeeded in making the ring, now on to the rest of it. I will post it when I have finished it.
