The Erase is something that's been talked about, an enormous amount, and for a long time.
Now that we have one, no-one is saying anything?!
Is this being talked about in another thread, somewhere?

well I did say thanks in Kate's thread...
Give them time, Rik. If they downloaded the program, or the trial, they are probably too playing and exploring.
we'll get there
one thing you might consider Rik:
in theory at least with the builder tool you can now build up lines as you would with a pencil/pen/faux-raster - and vice-versa with the eraser you can shave-off
The most interesting thing I find about the Eraser Tool is it can create a Shoft Erase and a Hard Erase. A Soft Erase creates a mask that hides parts of objects. A Hard Erase cuts the objects into smaller objects.
Oh, oh Bill. You know you'll have to explain this now before you get bombarded with a bunch of "huhs ?"
:)
The three shapes on the left are not grouped, those on the right are grouped.
Without selecting anything simply choose the Eraser Tool and click on the work area and drag across both sets of objects. The set on the left will be Hard Erased (cut into parts), the group on the right will be Soft Erased (a mask created) to hide the parts of the group.
Hi guys, finally work is taken care of and I have time to play :D
Another cool thing about the eraser and the shapebuilder is when you are working with one you can quickly switch to the other by holding the shift key and when you release the shift key it returns to the one you were first using! So if you are drawing or painting with the shapebuilder you can hold shift erase, release shift and keep drawing!
Shape Eraser -- looks like it erases at 100% transparency; no adjustable transparency, except for 'Softness' which feathers the edges. Is there any way to get it to erase at, say, 50% transparency?
adjustable transparency would be nice for both the eraser and the shapebuilder, how ever for the eraser there is a workaround either set the roundness level very low (around 1 or2 ) or group your object with it's self either of these will result in the eraser producing an opacity mask. After making your erasures use the page and Layer gallery to select the strokes/shapes you want semi transparent and change the colour of the opacity mask shape from black to a lighter shade of grey.
Not very intuitive I know but maybe next year they will add this... ya never know
