Not sure how I would ever use this, but thanks for sharing, Bob.
I did this effect years ago for an automotive establishment's logo. I would have to look through my archives, but if I recall properly, I did another logo that was similar but without the upper region being clipped.
Thanks for sharing, Bob.
Take care, Mike
It's a nice effect Bob. I could see it as maybe being useful like mike said for logos. Text effects are fun to do.
I'm really liking it. Also, instead of just an elipse, you could use a more complicated shape to get the glossiness to go any way you want inside the letters.

As Ben says, nice way to create glossy or reflective letters. Thanks, Bob.
Nice one Bob.
So, I thought I would just give it a go.
There is a problem, however.
And it may be visible, because of the light colours I have chosen.
There is a bit of an outline on the text. (None of the objects had any line applied to them.)

A very good way to get the effect though.
Thanks Bob.
Nice job, Rik. Yes, I noticed the outline to the text as well.
Bob.
There's ways to cheat, of course.
If the final product is to be a bitmap of some kind, you can always export it at a larger scale, then use Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro/Paint.Net/whatever to scale it down to the desired size, eliminating the edge in the resampling process.
Or if you don't mind the concept of an outline in general, and just want it cleaner, you can overlay the text with a copy that has only a line and no fill, thus hiding the unsightly edge.
A very small amount of feathering might alleviate the issue as well.

Interesting way to do it. Thanks, Bob.
I used part of your idea, but then, instead of using Clipview, I just used Create Bitmap, copy, and then dropped it from the bitmap gallery on the letters and there's no outline...
