Variable line width, variable color and opacity for a line
In Xara you can with pressure sensitive tablet draw a line with varialbe stroke width. And variable transparency.
But there is no way to later alter the width or transparancy of the stroke.
So there is no way to create an exact line, example a line that follows an complex object and than go in and set the exact width and variable transparency of that line.
Shouldnt this be possible to implement since you can do it as you draw?
Re: Variable line width, variable color and opacity for a line
It would be nice (if possible) to vary the width of a line manually on a point by point basis. Just a field on the Shape Editor Infobar that lists the width in % (and maybe an accompanying slider) of the line as it passes through the selected point, and a default width if no individual point is selected.

Hi Ben, to change the line width via nodes would be quite handy indeed!
It could work just by selecting the node and entering width in the normal line width field.
On screen controls could also be interesting...
This would definitely be a creative potential tool.

Personally, I'd actually prefer a separate field, call it something like Effective Width (for want of a better term), expressed in % of the overall width of the line as it passes through that node (default 100% of course). So the whole line could be set to (for example) 4pt, and then node by node, the line could start at 100%, then taper to 25%, then widen to 75%, or whatever.
That way, I could change the overall width of the line and still keep the variances I'd set (very useful when I've done an illustration and find that I need all my line art to be a bit lighter or heavier than originally anticipated).
But even being able to directly set the point size of the line as it passes through each node would be a significant improvement.

I didn't thought of this, quite clever!

I was Thinking about this today...
Just having a % slider for line 'start' and 'end' width, based on existing profiles would be helpful in many situations.

I would like to be able to lock a shape or a line down and draw on it repeatedly or with more pressure to make it thicker/more opaque or use the eraser to make it thinner/more transparent. I would also like a slider on lines and objects to make the lines thicker or thinner. Something similar to Expression 3 from Creature House.
I'd like to have a lasso tool that will let me select what portion of a shape or line I am working with to make thicker/thinner or more opaque/less opaque.
