Help making a banner for site!

I need help making a banner for my site... This is what I have right now

Here's something I threw together for you. I am not sure exactly what you are looking for. Hope you enjoy!

Just curious how you got the checker effect?

checkers:
make a square image (usually 10x10).
use the paintbrush tool set to half of the width/height of the image. Paint one corner, then the opposite corner.
Do the same to the other two corners, but with a different color.
In the image you want the checker, select the flood fill/paint bucket tool. Select the PATTERN box thingy (where it has Color, Gradient, Pattern, Null). Select the checker. Flood fill.
grids:
make a square image (usually 10x10).
use the paintbrush tool set to 1 pixel. paint two sides (left or right AND top or bottom).
In the image you want the grid, select the flood fill/paint bucket tool. Select the PATTERN box thingy (where it has Color, Gradient, Pattern, Null). Select the grid. Flood fill.
