Autosave or cache - location if any?
Hi forum,
I've erroneously closed an instance of XWD without saving, while having open multiple instances of XTP and XWD.
So I guess I threw away a deal of work.
This made me look at autosave and cache settings hoping perhaps some cached file would be present somewhere.
I found a tune-up tab in the options where it says cache control and the size allowed. Also the Internet tab allows for setting a Cache Size.
Alas looking in \windows\tmp or %user%\Local Settings I did not find much related to Xara cache files...
Thanks for enlightening me.

Re: Autosave or cache - location if any?
Hi Erwin,
There is a registry setting which allows backups to be created, but unfortunately you still must save at least once, there is no autosave feature or any way to retrieve a file that was never saved before closing Xtreme.
Amongst many other hidden settings and options, the XaReg utility will allow you to easily enable the .BAK option.
Re: Autosave or cache - location if any?
Steve, thanks for your quick reply.
My file has been saved.
It's just the final changes (quite a lot though) that have not been saved.
Does this open any doors?
Thank you,
Erwin
Re: Autosave or cache - location if any?
Yes same thing, if you haven't saved your changes before closing the file, then you're out of luck.
The .BAK file feature only saves a copy of the file when you save in Xtreme.
It's a backup only and needs to be enabled before it will function. It is not enabled by default.

Sometimes it's possible to get back your drawing from
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp\
folder.
Files are usually have not any extension, and look like "XS~280" (starting from the XS and then some numbers)
Open them with "Open with..." or similar dialog.
Re: Autosave or cache - location if any?
Alex you can drag'n'drop those XS~*** temp files directly into Xtreme.
It is possible 'some' of the unsaved 'objects' might be retrievable (clipboard data get's cached there too).
Good suggestion Alex ;)

Thanks a lot for your reactions.
I've managed to recover my files! :-)
