plug-ins for small images only?
I seem to be having frequent problems with applying live effects to larger images.
I end up having to use bitmaps and to sticking to 96 dpi and no more.
Is it just my system or are these plugins only for computer images and small scale printed stuff?

How large an image are we talking? Are you getting out of memory errors?
There's always been a memory ceiling (also to a degree, processor grunt) when applying plugin effects to huge images in any graphics app that can use bitmap filters.

5000 pixels wide.
Sometimes memory errors. Sometimes XX just vaporises after overloading.

5000 pixels is pretty large. That's about 16" wide at 300dpi.
I think it would use a lot of computing power/memory to process a large image like that.
I have applied a wide variety of bitmap effect without problems but only on images about 600 x 2400 pixels (about 2" x 8" at 300dpi).

Re: plug-ins for small images only?
Can not confirm this. Works fine for me. I have experimented with CD version on WinXP and 24mp image (5632x4224px) and it seems to work fine with live effects.
Just to make sure, I have also checked it on older machine with only 512mb of ram and it worked well there too, though quite slowly.
So it's probably a system specific problem.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Thank you.

Re: plug-ins for small images only?
Sure can John.
Using the Art Filter>>Painting causes an AV with very large photos every time.
And I have no wimp of a system :p
This photo (similar size to yours) 5632x3760 at 300dpi caused an AV
Optimised at 150dpi didn't cause an AV but the Art Filter>>Painting had no effect at all.
Once optimised to 96dpi the Art Filter>>Painting worked fine.
But then I have reported problems with extra large images before John.
I just avoid using them :)
Re: plug-ins for small images only?
use the [liquid ink] EDIT: liquid color deformation filter a lot these days for tweaks - not usually at large sizes
tried it with a 5000 x 5000 pix image - no problems either at 300dpi or remade [in PS] at 96 dpi - when either were the only object in a new xar file
but when I imported them into an existing xar file there were problems - once it crashed and then subsequently it returned from the filter without have performed any action...
hope this helps
